So I have been doing lots of reading well I came across mentzer and platz on nutrition. 60% carbs 25 % protein 15 % fat. But the emphasis on calorie counting. Mentzer was big on high carb high sugar. Fruit rice fruit juice. As long as you stay under caloric total you be fine. mike at 215 ran 2000 calories per day and would eat ice cream and mostly carrot cake for breakfast. What ypu guys thoughts. Plus his view on protein is wild such low amount

offseason? precontest? when? 2000 calories sounds like prep calories.
 
His views on protein are not low- enough. I am this year following his advice and even today my macros on 3400 cal were
55% carbs 467g
28% protein 238g
17% fat 65g
And all i do is i eat on maintenance. Works great for me. I just prioritise carbs and completely not thinking about proteins. Some meat here and there , 2 shakes and that is it. Fat comes from food naturally. My insulin sensitivity on around 500 carbs daily was superb on my last blood test. And i eat high carbs every single day.

Full offense but this is one of the stupidest diets I’ve ever seen
 
I’m far from an expert, honestly I only recently started tracking nutrition. Most current programs start with approximately 2-4 grams of protein per kg of body weight. Add in 1g, or less, of fat per kg and fill in the remainder of calories with carbs.

Keeping the formula simple makes it easier to track. The only time I found it restricting was when I ran a 1600 calorie cut recently. Otherwise the food proportions seem to have a nice balance with this method. For the record, I’m a carb lover and don’t feel like I have to overly deprive myself.

His thing was calories in out. As long as he stayed below 2000 calories he could eat what ever he wanted. So yes he could eat carrot cake and Ice cream as long as he did not cross his limits in calories. In his view. He did score a 300 perfect score. Was doing something right

A calorie is a calorie from a weight loss perspective (but even then I’d say food choice matters, you don’t really see Olympians prepping on ultra processed garbage foods— there’s multiple reasons for that)

A calorie isn’t a calorie from a micronutrients perspective. If you’re just spamming artificial sugar and food dyes and processed garbage, likely you’re body is going to be heavy inflamed, including your stomach and digestive system.

Micronutrients are extremely important for your everyday bodily functions, and you’re not going to be getting many micronutrients in ice cream and carrot cake. Not to mention if you’re doing a hard cut and 1/2 your calories are just coming from sugary garbage, chances are you’ll just end up hungrier and running out of calories very very fast. You’re not going to have much satiety eating high carb high fat carrot cake.

I stand behind what I said in calling that diet dumb.

I’m not saying Mike Mentzer is dumb, he obviously built a great physique, had some strokes of genius, but then also went off the rails smoking crack and cigarettes to where he’d be passed out outside golds gym waiting for his training clients to come in. So yes smart in some ways, not so smart in other areas.
 
Was that diet from his growing years, maintenance or contest diet?

Front and nutrition stand point its pretty pathetic.. Mike had strokes of genius followed by crap just to be controversial.. this is one of those
