I noticed i looked bigger and better at my gym mirrors then my home mirrors.
Might be just because im pumped at the gym?

Does anyone know if that is the case that gyms use mirrors that are different then homes?

same as rear view mirror? Lol

I have 2 full size mirrors in two of my bedrooms. Those two mirrors are probably 6.5’ X 2.5’. I look different in both of those mirrors, as well as the two large bathroom mirrors. I don’t know how mirrors are made, but they definitely all have different reflections for sure. At least that’s what my eyes see.

If a mirror is even slightly concave, everything will appear slimmer. They're called skinny mirrors. Dept stores use them in dressing rooms all the time to increase sales. A convex mirror will make everything appear wider. The large full wall mirrors in my gym are all over the place.

Different lighting in both rooms of the house, that surely also influences

I’m sure like said above lighting is a major factor but also when I’m at home I’m relaxed and not tensed up where as when I’m at the gym I’m there to destroy shit and focused. I literally can start seeing my vascularity increase the second I start walking into the gym so I think there’s a big element of how you’re body reacts to just prepping itself to start lifting. The adrenaline and whole “fight or flight” response when in the gym creates a different dynamic to my physique for sure.

Someone is marketing a concave mirror. Makes you look 10 lbs slimmer.

Pump at the gym and different lighting.

My guess.

This is your answer right here. Mirrors in gyms are made to make you look bigger and leaner than you really are.

You nailed it brother. I've been in the window, Glass and mirror business for 30 years this is true. Light also makes a difference but you are correct

Yup. The glass would have to be lens-quality flat and it never is. Plus gyms are generally higher ceilings and overhead lighting with shadows that make everything pop.

i look way better in the magic mirrors at the gym. shredded, big.....
everyone does. i watch people standing, they look eh..i see their reflections, they look much bigger, leaner.....
weird. tho if u walk past them lookin at em at an angle u can see the wavering in them.

at my biggest and leanest i wouldnt EVER show my body parts unless fully pumped lol
didnt want anyone to see me looking less than my best
once pumped tho bring on gym lighting!
the kinda dark gyms w high overhead lighting seems to be best

now i always cover up... sigh... now a good gym lighting is a silhouette that shows my chest sticks out farther than stomach lol true story tho...

agreed with most the guys, some gyms do put a “magic mirror” in for posing but in general, i have a posing room in my house with full size flat mirrors and i look better in them than in my bathroom mirrors which actually have friendlier lighting. my advice, find the worst mirror in your gym and pose there until like the week or two before the show, youll work harder til the end and then the last two weeks youll get the mental edge from the switch but not enough time to get over confident.
