First of all I need to introduce myself since I am very new to this site...My name is Jason. My background was in powerlifting and nutrition. Being in the fitness industry has been and will always be a great passion of mine. I have been laying low recovering from knee and spine surgeries since late 2012. To date I have had three types of spinal surgeries in my lumbar spine and two knee surgeries. I need one more knee surgery and one more spine surgery on my neck this time around.

I was also diagnosed with Cuada Equina Syndrome from the compression injuries from the multiple levels of hernias that I had from the accident I was in. Since the accident my goal has been to train again. Right now I have permanent motor and sensory nerve damage in my right leg and hip...which sucks. But I am dealing with it in every positive way that I can. I have tried almost every single method out there for promoting a faster recovery. I have practically three years of experience so far with therapy and on hands experience with the recovery process that goes along with these types of surgeries.

I am creating this post to see if any members have experienced something similar as I have and if so what remedies have worked for you to get yourself back into pre injury form. I do welcome and and all feedback. And if anyone on here has any questions for me on here please feel free to ask. I have absolutely no issues with giving feedback to anyone contemplating spine surgeries or who is experiencing any issues post op.

I thought I knew about most every disorder out there... 1) that shows that horribly arrogant and 2) that I'm far less intelligent than I thought.

So I looked it up Cauda Equina Syndrome

I have a compressed nerve in my forearm, and 2 bulging disks in my neck and a few other nerve issues going on but significantly less serious than that which you presented. Some of my pain has been mitigated with medication and epidurals. I hope someone else out there has more to offer you than I.

I'm in the same boat you're in...I thought I knew quite a bit about a lot of things medically speaking from school and research classes but I too had to look this up also. It's quite crazy. Sorry to hear about the compressed nerves in the neck. I have some bc of issues with herniated disks at L5/L6. No compressed nerves in the forearms though. I do hope that gets better for you. Are you getting sensation issues in your hands from the compressed nerves in the neck?

I have always read that job one is to first get pressure off of the nerve. You have accomplished that with the surgeries. The new thought process w/ chiropractors is that what they want to accomplish is to keep things moving. That is what I try to do for my back. With fusion, I don't know how you can safely do this w/o straining segments above and below the fused areas. Perhaps you can comment on this?

It depends on where your fusion is going to be to begin with. Before surgery I saw a chiropractor for years just for maintenance because of squats and deads and I did a lot of deep tissue therapy and massages as well. Plus active and passive stretching. Since the accident and surgeries it's quite difficult to do those things. The chiropractor I see owns clinics in a few different states and has been adjusting people with fusions for years so he has a really good understanding of my issues. I wouldn't just trust this type of treatment to anyone. Even though there is a fusion done there's other types of adjustment he can do to keep the sacroiliac joint moving so it doesn't lock up and to kee my hips loose as well. I will be honest and tel you this has and will involve a lot of forced stripping of he hamstring using graston tools as well. And there's definitely a lot more routine maintenance stretching I have to do on my part to keep things loose in between visits. But it does help a lot. Hope this helps.
