Has anyone here had to move or relocate large gym equipment? Do you have any tips or ideas how to do safely without damaging the equipment? I bought two leg presses, two hack squat machines, and a Smith Machine recently and have no idea how I’m going to move it all. Help!!:D

Hire a company that specializes in moving heavy gym equipment.

I just bought some big equipments from a gym that went out of business. I contacted a store that sells commercial gym equipment and told them what I was buying. They sent a crew to break it down, move it, and out it together in my basement.

It cost a few hundred bucks, but it was worth it.

Pallet jacks, lots of wood shims, heavy duty furniture rollers, and several strong people to help you move the stuff.

If stuff is going up into a moving van/truck...you'll need a forklift or a lull as well...

You could also look into hiring some laborers to help out.

With the great price you paid for all the stuff, use what you saved to hire professional movers. Not worth the risk of breaking that equipment to do it yourself.

I agree. You may also hurt yourself or one of your helpers might get hurt. Not worth it.

I posted the job on thumbtack.com for professional movers. I got a quote from a company that will use a 26 foot box truck, 3 guys, furniture dollies, straps, and a heavy duty pallet jack to move all the items. They’re charging $220. It’ll be one trip from the building to my house and the storage unit. All within 9 miles total trip. I sent pictures of all the items just to make sure they could do it. They assured me that it shouldn’t be a problem.

I looked around on google for a company in my area, but couldn’t find any takers. I believe the guy I bought the stuff from said the guy that moved it in used a forklift to move it.

You can search moving companies on Yelp. A lot of home service businesses use that request a quote button and you can upload photos and distance and get a quote.

Thanks brother! I did that yesterday and came back with a bunch of hits.

I worked for Bally back in the day, and my first day on the job they had me and 2 other guys move a bunch of pin loaded leg presses and chest press machines up a bunch of stairs. It was ridiculous. They should have hired someone who specializes in that... but I digress. I think using a fork lift or something along those lines would be your best bet. Otherwise, it's going to take a village :D

and if youre old like me and nearly 50 years old you are going to tear up your back bad.

I contacted a buddy of mine that lives nearby me in San Antonio. He’s going to help me move the leg press, squat machine, and the Smith machine next weekend. He has a big trailer and there’s a 2.5 ton pallet jack along with furniture rollers in the building. He buys and collects things for his gym all the time. I KNOW he knows what he’s doing, unlike the movers.

Nice! Congrats on that. Im with you 100% on that if you have a friend with that kind of equipment and know how. Take some pictures and share them if you don't mind. I think a lot of us would like to see your set up when youre done.
