Moving to Dallas

It sounds like my wife and i are going to be moving to Dallas late this spring. How many of you live there? How do you like it? Is the job market still strong, like i've been reading? Any bad things about the area? I'll be going there for my wife's work, so i'll be the one looking for work down there.

CB, all I have to say is your gonna enjoy the metroplex area (9th largest city in the US) so this means lots of traffic bumper to bumper but you will learn to live with it or know how to get around it. Plenty to do...concerts, sports, clubs and plenty of BBing shows. Never a dull moment. As far as crime goes, you will learn what areas to stay away from but there is alot of it. Good luck with your move.

Dallas or Texas is probably the best state in the country economy wise. I've lived there a couple of times and visit family and friends often. No state income tax rocks. Home to one of the best gyms in country: Metroflex. Plennnnty of stuff to do. Low cost of living. House prices holding relatively strong. More good looking women than anywhere I've ever lived also.

Bads:
Traffic, not as bad as Austin or Houston tho
Crime, depending where you live, First 48 is in Dallas a lot

Hot as shit, know what 105 deg with 80% humidity feels like with all that extra mass on your body? you're about to

All and all I loved when I lived there and I enjoy when I visit

Thanks for the input. We haven't completely decided on which area to live. She has family in Plano, so that is a possibility. I'm excited to live in a city that has culture once again. Phoenix really doesn't have a diverse assortment of things to do. It sure isn't your typical large city.

I've heard great things about the economy.....and especially the gyms

Looking forward to that. Guess i'll have to learn about humid heat.

constrution is going strong if thats your field. im right next to plano. you will love it here i think. we just got the biggest 24hr fitness in the state.
you will find some nice friendly sexy hot women here also.

Plano is a nice area...had a friend who lived there but moved to Frisco. McKinney is also a nice area.

Sorry man no input cuz haven't lived in dallas but the humidity is gonna be very tough to get used to if you've been in Phoenix long. West is very dry comfortable climate, not so in the south when it's humid.

Lived In Dallas my whole life and love it, but check out Frisco and mckinney area that is where I reside now. There is a multitude of great gyms here! Good luck bro!

The humidity is nothing like Houston. In the summer in dallas it gets hot but it's more of a dry hot, sometimes it gets humid but it really isn't that bad.

Hotnutz how far are you from the prosper area???

I moved to Dallas county, city of Sachse about 5 months ago. More like a country atmosphere compared to where im from in CA. Hot and humid in the summer, cold in the winter. I think the coldest i felt was 16 degress a few weeks ago. I'm from CA so the weather change was pretty drastic. I came to like the humidity though. Wasn't retaining much water in the summer but got cramps in the calves like crazy. I haven't been to many bad areas like some of these guys are talking about. Must be south Dallas or somewhere. The crime rate in most northwest or northeast areas are pretty low compared to city of Dallas. I like it here though and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. No hardcore gyns out in this neck of the woods though. I think there's an LA fitness in the next city. lol. What job field are you in? If your in the medical field it's not unusual to find a job within a week.

from what I understand the dallas area is alot more friendly to the bodybuilding crowd than say Austin. Most people there are lance armstrong wannabes or hippies lol. Great place to party though. Yeah theres metroflex.. but of course all the other chain gyms (24 hour, golds, la fitness). My friend goes to a la fitness in mckinney and loves it.

That is great to hear. My education is in Microbiology, but am currently working more in the environmental consulting field, so i'm not exactly sure what i will be looking for. I'm very happy to hear the market is stronger than most, though.

I'm really looking forward to checking out the Metroflex in Plano. I've only heard great things.

Been in Dallas for 11 years. Great economy comparetively even in a down market. I live up in the Mckinney area. I go to Lifetime fitness. Great gym, especially with kids. I think north of Dallas is the place to live. Frisco, Plano, Allen, Mckinney, etc.

Well, if I'm not mistaken Preston road takes you into prosper. I think Deon sanders has a house over there. I live on Custer which is 5 miles fro. Preston. I belong to the Frisco athletic center and 24 hr fitness located off of Preston. You must live In prosper?

Yeah ur not but like 5 10 minutes from me. And dion does have a house out here,i could walk there from my house if i wanted to. I figured u were probably down 75 near allen. The frisco athletic center is nice,used to workout there and play basketball,got to damn crowded though.
