Music Preference Shift // Playlist Share

Grew up listening to these guys. They were great in the 90's and their lead singer had a very unique vocal style for that time! Check out the songs "One Man Army" and "Pound For Pound."

Will check it out. I am so happy to find these dudes! It is right in line with my tastes and completely new to me.

WTF did they not get more coverage?

I used to hear them on one of the college radio stations in the area where I grew up. That station was, by and large, a metal station. Pro-Pain did not have a mainstream sound at all for the metal scene (in those days). Probably too hard to be mainstream accessible and too rough vocally. And of course, they sounded nothing like the nu-metal which was getting big at that time (Korn). They really didn't sound like anyone else at the time (some lumped them into "hardcore" although I always felt they were more metal) and then there's the promotion side. They probably never got the push they would have needed to sell a ton of records to become huge. A good example of this is Life Of Agony and even Type O Negative. Life Of Agony was on the brink of national exposure and had the backing but the band fell apart right before they could blow up. Type O Negative should've been a mainstream band and probably would have if their lead singer (and leader) didn't fall deep into a horrible drug addiction.

A lot of stars have to align for a metal band to go big time. Maybe not as hard in the 80's when metal and hard rock were more popular. The landscape definitely changed in the 90's though and grunge played a big part of that. This is all just my opinion and my memories from what's now a log time ago. Great period for music though and I'll end my post by saying that getting old blows!
