51, male. Had my fist dexa scan today. Been using a Renpho smart scale for about 5 months. I’ve read they aren’t super accurate but, still a little surprised by where they are different. I need to follow up on the bone density thing, I’ve never had any reason to think there was an issue. On the bright side it’s the leanest I’ve ever been.

Yikes, yea hopefully the bone density figure was an error.

Do you take a lot of Ai?

According to GPT, a faulty low bone density reading is uncommon for dexa.

I didn’t even know about this component (low estrogen reducing bone density) until you mentioned it.

I appreciate the insight

I didnt know it was this applicable to otherwise healthy men myself until I asked GPT. A possible 2 to 4 pct bone density loss yearly by using Ai? Shits crazy.

The scale looks like a vague guesstimate - got ur weight and age right though - thanks for posting so I never to trust those scales

NGL the Hume Health was working well until it wasn’t. Not even concerned with the whether or not the actual numbers are right but more the consistency or lack thereof over time. Worked for about a year and then started freaking out basically telling me I was getting uber fat…

Interesting. I would think the bone density test would be off. Especially when you train with weights.

Renpho scales are laughably inaccurate when it comes to measuring body fat %. I have no idea why they even include that number and pretend there is any merit to it. I only have one to weigh myself but don’t pay any attention to the other numbers on it.

It has been, for me at least, extremely consistent and the changes seem comparable to my actual weight. I was thinking that now that I know the Delta, I can kind of account for the inaccuracy.

does it trend up and down accordinglyt as you gain or lose bodyfat though? or is it totally useless?

For me, seemingly it does. Before the Dexa, I had no reason to believe it was that far off. But I just used it for a generalprogress report

Completely useless to me. If my body weight goes up and it’s not fat, the scale will say my body fat percentage went up instead. I did an InBody before and my bf% was 7% less than the scale said. I’m not even going to try to extrapolate anything from it.

After looking more closely at the full report and not just the dashboard, the actual bone density number is 1.183 g/cm² with a Z-score of -0.2, which, according to ChatGPT, is considered normal for my age. A Z-score of -0.2 means I’m just slightly below the exact average for men my age, not anywhere near the osteopenia range, which doesn’t begin until -1.0. I also plugged the values into a few independent bone density reference calculators, and they all say about the same thing. The dashboard percentile language made it sound more dramatic than it is, but the detailed report confirms there’s no medical concern. I'll still bring it up to my Doc on my next visit. I wouldn't expect to be low at all. Screenshot 2026-02-23 163800.png

I’m unsure what to comment on here. This is a post showing that a shit scale, one that 99.9% of people knowww are shit, compared to a dexa is inaccurate. This isn’t surprising info.

And now we’re talking about bone density lol let’s just stay on that one

My bones must be pencil thin by now after 20+ years 😑

Thanks for sharing Rusty. I’ve had two DEXA scans in the last 4 months, and somehow my bone density matched yours both times. Like we’re in some kind of low-density club I didn’t sign up for. I’m a bit concerned, not gonna lie.

I do consume a heroic amount of caffeine, smoke cannabis, and basically run on diet drinks, so I figured it might be that… but then I found this thread. Kind of wild that it could be the AI.

Honestly, with my bone density, I half expect to turn into dust every time I lift something heavy. I am wondering if I can turn it around.
