My reply to all the preaching threads

You guys have to realize that this board is no longer a dominant hard-core competitive bodybuilding base anymore, sure people spout off about drugs and this and that but they don't truly walk the walk. It is what it is, not a major problem, that why the ass thread and many other off topic threads rule the board, it somewhere ordinary people can contribute, hell start a philosophy thread (seems most threads are turning into that) a pic of foods thread, a political thread, or numerous other off topic material and you will have tons of activity as normal people can easily contribute and show their knowledge base there, hard-core bodybuilding? NO that knowledge base "for the most part" has left.
How many members are currently prepping for nationals (bodybuilding class)?......EXACTLY!
Back in the day we had myself, meadows, gooey, Starnes, Porter, and a slew of others (men and women) striving and working for a pro card in bodybuilding.

The good news is...any day I want I can take a walk down hard-core memory lane by simply hitting the search button, so anytime I get sick of seeing 180 lbs guys on 2 grams of gear crying about they can't grow I just hit the search button and escape to the "Golden Days" of professionalmuscle.

All very good points, instagram is for those who want to feel famous or important because of their appearance or wealth (real or simulated), without adding anything of value to the world.

Like I said, the only utility of instagram for bodybuilding fans is to see what athletes look before the shows, but unless you are a fan of BB shows, you are not missing anything.

Sure, there are some profiles that bother to offer some information next to the photographs or videos, but it is not the most suitable medium for it.
The college age daughter of my neighbor has a couple of thousand followers on IG. I don't take it very seriously.

Just wondering, how popular is bodybuilding these days compared to just 10 years ago? It seems like in general that the public cares less about it now than just a decade ago. Is bodybuilding dying off everywhere? If it has left here, where is it now? Where are the guys "in the know" sharing their knowledge? Has it all gone to pay to play?

Btw, love these past 2 pages as its a walk down memory lane. EF was my first board and i remember all these names as I lurked and just aaate up all the topics and convo we were having back then.

And yes 100% heavyhitter. I love ass and tits, but when the ASS THREAD is the most bumped thread, then there is a problem lol
Not a ton of new topics of convo in here lately. But it does come in waves. For 3 months itll be pretty dry and then itll be fulled and posted for awhile. Ebs and flows of it.

perfect metaphor. Social media is awesome, but cannot handle the deaper nuanced conversations that are relayed through here.
The problem is that the bits and pieces of info that make their way thru current IG/YT is primarily trash. Debate and discussion in not really the goal. Its mostly uplifting one's personal opinion. Boards did/do a great job of opening up a topic and having many knowledgable people add in their 2 cents and then everyone can kind of decide based on multiple opinions. Imagine trying to learn about your first cycle thru twitter or IG? jesus....
Really great points. In about 1997 I thought I would never touch an AAS again. Then middle age hit. I thought I had it all figured out. I found some boards in 2007. Ordered a cycle that April based on what I felt worked for me in the distant past. Sustanon, EQ and Stanozolol. Worked just fine but I became entranced with the back and forth on the boards with board warriors quoting studies, first hand experience and such. It prompt me to dig in a lot deeper than I had in the past. In the end I wrote about 25 articles. If it wasn't for the boards I probably would have neveer dug so deeply into all the different pathways, drugs and experiences that folks had. I can't do IG or Twatter or even YT anymore. Just mostly garbage all the way around. The boards inspired. That bull shit newest wave of social media only seems to inspire stupidity, bombast and other forms of spectacle.

Maybe there are some fewer bodybuilders competing because many are in the classic and mens physique, but the absence of athletes in the boards is because I have exposed in the previous paragraph.

They are all on social media, just follow people like suleose on IG. Almost every up and coming bodybuilder and pro tag him with their progress post, so by following him you get to see a slew of bodybuilders here and abroad.
Another one to follow is bodybuildingwithoutborders.

Just curious, do you think the core cause of that is many of us are getting older but there isn't an influx of young guys hardcore into it? I mean hell, from 18yrs old to 30 (~'02-'14) I was hardcore into this, on the boards, etc. I mean I now recognize some of the guys in this thread 10-20 years ago.

I guess, it makes sense that at 39 years old I still love training hard but I'm way more into family, career, health, longevity but it doesn't seem like there are any "youngsters" taking my spot whereas years ago as the time ticks by you'd have another flood of young guys coming into the "hardcore" fold.

I literally come on here to talk about health, longevity, and fertility lol

But are they discussing their drug use on there and how they train in detail? I've always had the impression it's mostly just pictures and superficial text.

That's exactly what my thoughts are. This may be a predominant thing.

Right on man. I remember being 22 in columbus, OH and I went to a gym with JM Blakely, Mike Francois, Brian Yersky (retired IFBB pro), and a bunch of other local hardcore dudes and it was me and a few others my age and we wanted that hardcore lifestyle. Food, weights, and drugs. Marathon 500lb deadlift sessions and bloody noses lol. We were all new on the forums then and were the "next gen" of 'kids'.

It just doesn't seem like that is happening and my generation that was into it is getting out of it sooner vs the older hardcore group.

I can say just from a little guy here I always promote PM and do not even use any other boards. But have learned a lot contributed when and if I could. I appreciate the OG guys guys. I had a few who I thought were freinds but ghosted. New account could not get into my old one (sean70ss)

SOCIAL MEDIA ^^^^

bodybuilders are narcissistic motherfuckers or at least REAL BODYBUILDERS are, so social helps feed that by likes and followers, shit how many guys here post pics (full body) on this board? Not a whole lot they claim that they fear LE yet every bodybuilder and their brother are posting pics, family pics, pics of their houses and not a worry in the world on social media, yes plenty of bodybuilders discuss AAS and other performance enhancements they also do it on YouTube yet every fat fuck..oops I mean "bodybuilder" on this board act like LE owns this board and waiting to take them down..LOL the fact is they look like a bag of assholes and ashamed to post a pic (90% of them).

Also bodybuilders can promote themselves and their business effort for free on social media. They can't do that here without being a sponsor.

I had the sane experience. I lifted at Larry Pacifico's gym in Dayton back in the late 80s/early 90s. It wasn't unusual to see some blood over at the power rack.

What's that?
It’s basically a website for people to fuck or masterbate and then paying customers sign up to watch them….. it’s porn in a nutshell!

Cage

Now that is a very good point. I'm a bit surprised some of the social media platforms don't figure out a good way to profit from that.

I mean the rise of gurus and coaches have SOME blame for that. But there are just as many clueless BBers who dont understand nutrition or training right now as there were 10-15 years ago. The difference is that if you wanted to LEARN and understand there were only a couple places to do that at that time. If you truly were a hardcore BBer, you wanted to talk and bullshit with other hardcore BBers because they are like-minded. There were only a couple truths in BBing and only a couple places to find them. Boards being one of them.

Nowadays, there are just too many people "telling the truth." The boards are still here...but are the boards correct? Or what about that 20yr old physique guy from Delaware? Maybe he's knows the truth. Or what about 5% videos? Or what about Vigorous Steve? Or what about that guy?
FAR too many opinions being labeled as truth and far too many people have microphones now.

Im 10 years older than my younger brother who asks me about my training and nutrition now more than ever. He's trying to get in shape.
My god....you should hear some of the stuff he asks me. "Where...the fuck did you hear that from?" "Well some guy said it on IG live. He was pretty big..." Case in point. If said "pretty big guy" wouldve come on the baords 15 years ago to talk that shit....he would be eviscerated and slowly hazed until he stopped posting LOL But now, those guys have a microphone and a massive audience who is willing to listen to their 1/8th baked ideas.
We have a problem of TOO MUCH INFO now.
