Thought I’d share as I’ve been working on some personal goals lately and found my experience interesting although not unheard of.
I’ve never understood ‘addiction’ much in terms of the psychological portion. I’ve used recreational drugs responsibly for years and never had a problem with addiction or interfering with life and have gone through prescription medication withdraws no problem when needed due to physical addiction (opiates and benzos after injures).
That said, I have struggled massively with impulsivity typically in the form of sex/sex addiction which has been frustrating beyond belief given my typical self control and generally logical mindset. Have seen several therapists for professional help as well as peruses other support methods.
Interestingly I’ve found that NAC massively decreases impulsivity and generalized drive to the point of making bad decisions. I’ve taken it in and out of my supplement regiment multiple times with extremely noticeable effects and changes within a 48 hour period either way.
The main downside I’ve experienced is a lack of drive when taking it (fml can’t havw the best of both worlds) to the point where I’m uninterested 80% of the time (as opposed to feeling like its a constant NEED). Not that things don’t work when they need to, just that there isn’t much noticeable interest.
Definitely a cheap option I’d recommend trying though for those struggling to the point of addiction/impulsivity interfering with day to day life.
