Nasal Congestion.. Any Solutions For Relief?

So, I was down on bed with fever for 2 weeks. And It all started with a runny nose and I taking a Cetrizine Tab for it. Now, my I am having a blocked nose from then. Its been 3 weeks. I tried inhaling steam and all but nothing seems to be working. But, I havent used any tablets. Not even used when I was down with fever except that one for the running nose. Any tips or solution guys (other than visit a doctor) for nasal congestion? Any medicines you know that will clear out all the sputum and relieve this congestion? Thanks.

Oh I forgot to mention that I am on Galazolin now since 7 days or so. But, its just a temporary relief. Just for 10 hours or so. It seems like I cud not get off this. What I need is a permanent relief. I want to breath easily again. I need to get my sleep back. Its affecting my lifts in the gym.

Runny nose due to allergies:

-fluticasone (flonase) nasal spray = 1st line.
-then loratadine (claritin) or cetirizine (zyrtec) 2nd line--these must be taken daily to see benefit. Could also add fexofenadine (allegra) to this list. Might have to try different ones to see which one works best but they're dirt cheap

Otherwise if not from allergies...

-best decongestant = pseudoephedrine (old sudafed formulation, depending on state / pharmacy, may have to get a prescription for this if they won't sell OTC--ask the pharmacy or check state laws, small independent pharmacy may be willing to if chains are not)

-sudafed NOT behind the counter = sudafed PE = phenylephrine. Doesn't work as well as original sudafed (pseudoephedrine) and will CRANK your BP if susceptible. Personally don't recommend this one.

-best short-term use = oxymetazoline (afrin) nasal spray-- do NOT use more than 3 days in a row or you will experience rebound congestion. Dirt cheap. May raise blood pressure so monitor closely (didn't for me and many others, but it's possible).

Neil med sinus rinse - 2 ties a day. (OTC) (you have to use distilled water just FYI).

Nasonex Nasal spray. (prescription not OTC)

Aztelin nasal spray (if you have allergies). (not OTC)


Have cut back on colds/ sinus infections per year dramatically .and when they do occur it shortens the time frame.

I use the sinus rinse periodically prior to putting on my CPap. Once it is on the air is filtered and it holds me through the night.

They have no medicinal value that I know of but was a life saver last week when I was ill. The Vicks Nasal Stick. Very soothing and helped me breathe a little easier through my nose.

Funny you mention that, I have had the opposite problem - nose won't stop running, tried all my allergy meds flonase claritan , no fever no aches just ...snot...yuck ....was doing low dose sudafed - the good stuff - but it makes me feel loopy...so I had remembered I had a few 100 mg script viagra tablets and remembered how they stuffed me up so bad I couldn't breathe back when I took them....well took one and 3 hours later all stopped up flushed and red and ready to rumble and wife gives the "no way look" cause she says I am sick.
Went to bed with wood and super dry mouth from mouth breathing caused I was stuffed up.

I use a sinupulse nasal irrigator; it is like a water-pick for the nose. You use a NaCl based powder to mix with distilled water and it cleans all the snot out real good. It also seems to decrease some of the inflammation so it doesn't feel as clogged either.

Then I think I'm in trouble. I been using it for a week now. Coz 3 days did nothing for me. I cudnt get of it coz I hate breathing via mouth. What to do now?

On 80mg of accutane Ed
My main side effects are my nostrils and lips get dried out

This made it very difficult to breath out of my nose

My dermatologist recommended aquaphor for both.

Works like a fucking charm
