So I have most of my life (at least as far as I can remember) had only one nostril that really will pass air at a time. They'll switch off many times during the day but almost always one is blocked. This never caused any real issues until recently. I'm 260 at the moment and holding around there (heaviest I've ever been at 5'8) and I seem to be having breathing issues when sleeping. To the point now that I think my sleep is definitely being negatively effected and I'm falling asleep a couple of times a day trying to work.

I guess my question is has this been abnormal the whole time and I never was made aware of it? If so, wth do you even do?

I'm really not sure at the moment what to pursue for relief. I don't know if I just need to figure out how to get a CPAP or what. I know A LOT of you all have one. I hesitate about that only because I am not usually this heavy and will probably do a minicut within the next month that will immediately drop me back to ~240. But on the other hand I'm not done yet, so I'll be this heavy again.

Most likely you probably have a deviated septum.

As far as the CPCP, you're kind of playing with fire with out one. I think controlling blood pressure and CPAP use are the 2 main components to increased health and longevity.

Even if you drop to sub 240 you're still going to have sleep apnea. Anytime your neck is over about 17 inches it's going to be an issue. I'm 6-1 and have had my sleep apnea test both at 285 and 235 and both are in the severe range.

Dude, at 5’8” and 260 you have sleep apnea. I’d bet the farm on it lol.
Do yourself a favor and get a sleep study done. You can take the equipment home and do it there. I was having some issues with my cpap just here recently but it’s seems good again and I feel 100 times better then before I had it.
Just curious, what’s your approximate body fat. At 5-8 you’re a big mofo lol

Do you use cialis or viagra a lot? That can cause stuffy nose

I take a blast of Sinex Extreme each night before bed for this very reason.

Could you reply to my PM when you get a moment? Thanks.

been there. i think i went thru EXACTLY what you are going thru now.
Everything u said is EXACTLY the same experience i had.
turned out was deviated septum and as i got bigger and became little more laborous to breathe it became a big problem.
had nasal reconstruction surgery. wasnt fun but it fixed it!
totally worth it.

I dunno right now. I AM offseason and did not get my last wax so it's a little harder to tell. Still have abs in the morning before becoming pregnant with food so max 15ish? I also somehow have the extremely shitty Dr Mike genetics where I look far fatter than I am in general.

Like I said this is the heaviest I've been, not really comfortable up here.

Ugh. Wasn't thinking surgery was a possible result. That wasn't exactly on my radar.

Your nostrils switching use throughout the day is completely normal and called the nasal cycle. Google “nasal cycle” or “do air nostrils switch”.

If it’s temporary I would still use a cpap. Your circadian rhythm, recovery, etc are suffering.

I wouldn’t think surgery yet. Almost everyone has some type of deviation in their septum and not all deviated septum’s require surgery. My septum is deviated but still in the midline. No surgery, no snoring, and no sleep apnea for me.

Have your tried breath right strips at night? Humidifier? Ponaris nasal emmoliant?

Doesn't seem this virtual thing my insurance will do something like this, so I have to figure something else out -_-. Medical shit is literally the worst.

@ripriot I did just get some of those breathing strips a few days ago and they seem like they might be helping, probably not enough though. I can't find my tape measure at the moment but I'd guess from memory that my neck is in the 19 range.

Dude you absolutely have a deviated septum! Note being able to breath out one side is the classic symptom. It's a physical problem that no amount meds or studies or tests will fix. One side of your sinuses needs to be unblocked. Being bigger just made it worse.

We are living the same life lol
I have my CPAP AND i have a horribly deviated septum, broke my nose far too many times in football.
Honestly, you just need a CPAP and probably a full face mask....dont even think about surgery right now for that septum. 50% of the time it works wonders, the other 50% of the time it doesnt help 1 bit. If it was a guarantee, i'd tell you to do it but its isnt at all. I think the CPAP is a must though. I cant even nap without one now.
