im sure a lot of members here have nice home gyms, im looking to get good commercial grade equipment for a home gym set up to possibly have like a personal training studio in the basement, i really like the profitness stuff, but maybe theres compariable stuff out there?
i woould like to have
1 cable cross machine
1 smith machine
1 squat cage
pro style dumbells
adjustable benches
dip bars, roman chair
db rack

and free weights and long and short bars, to get started, other stuff i can pick up as i feel i need it.

so if anyone has any good websites to check out let me know,

thanks

this would potentially be to train clients privately. not just for me. Mirrors, yes i need those as well.

IRONMASTER

I love my gym. I love training at home soooooooo much.
I can do anything I want on my set up.
I am getting a Powertech compact leg press within an few weeks.
I already have the adj 5-130 dumbells, the adj Superbench, dumbell stands, and multi function Smith machine from Ironmaster.

Safety is the number one concern here. The Squats and Bench/Inclines are the killers. A smith machine addresses these issues with little tradeoffs.
Also Steele is right about the personality type. If you look to others to motivate you, or you have to have an audience in order to push yourself,
etc.
But there are benefits to having it all set up for you. Your perfect set up.
Cause you don't like waiting for some pinhead to do drop sets with every dumbell in the place. Your 16 homeboys are camped out on the bench.
Aerobics class is resting and stretching on all the flat surfaces throughout the gym.
Or if you like the music on your station, loud. German Hard Bass Techno
Or you like to dress in unusual gym attire. Striped tights with a huge pouch front
Or you like to leave your equipment piled up in a certain way.
Or you have mandatory topless training on tuesdays..
Hey its' YOUR GYM.:D

and thats the very best part!

I train at home and in the beginning it was great. but as time went on, i realized i didn't have enough equipment! and the room!
But I have adjusted my training to fit my needs. I would still like to get more stuff but space and $ are limited. Now I love training at home. I can train when I want.

The adjustable dumbbell idea is the excellent. Think about are you going to invest in selectorized machines or plate loaded?

check craigslist, you may find some people selling their machines...I see a lot of bowflex's for sale LOL!

My friends home GYM ( its his Small business too)

He gets some pretty good tax write offs too.

Just picked up a Powertec cage with lat attachment - pretty nice setup (this replaced my half cage that was becoming less safe). It comes with dip bars and pullup bars. Pretty solid as well.

I second adjustable db - but, if you are going to be training other, fixed might be better. Although, I have 5 pairs of adjustables and they work great. The highest I can go on those is 85lbs.

Calf machine would also be great. I do my standing and seated calf work on the smith machine but a dedicated one would be better if you're going to be training people.

im amaster personal trainer as well as a competitor on stage. i have alot of in home clients, some richer then others so i can design gyms to fit there needs, i have some chi bears players i train at there house, and i hooked them up on some awesome equipment they use, its true some time motovation gets in the way when your alone. but thats why we get a couple or 3 players there to train to keep things moving along.esentials such as mentioned above work well but you really need to get equipment that suits your sport or if its leisure then some of this some of that works, but good luck, cause the shit can get exspensive

i dont mean to rain on your parade about the adjustable dumbbells. but if you havent used them before....try them out. i honestly hate them compared to the steel ones. the adjustable ones can get real bulky and awkward. but hey some people like em....but they are not for me.
