SUPRASPINA TEAR ---NEED YOUR INPUT ON THIS

Just had a MRI on my shoulder. Have what the doc said is a "small partial tear" of my "supraspina". He said it is part of my rotator cuff. Going to an ortho next week.

Has anyone else had this?
What did they do for it?
Can i rest and rehab it my self?
Will Rotator cuff exercises help?

Thanks for all your input.

First you need to let the tear heal. So just train legs for a couple of weeks. Then get to a physiotherapist and they will give you specific rehab exercises for this. But you must let the tear heal first. By all mean get another opinion but it is a common injury.Once healed I do recommend rortator exercises two to three times a week. Do not make the mistake of trying to go heavy with rotator exercises. these are designed to stabilize not bear heavy loads.

When I was younger I screwed mine up going way to heavy on military presses.(Don't let your buddies talk you into something stupid) The doc gave me a cortisone shot and I was told not to lift anything heavy for several weeks. Once I started exercising my shoulders again, I really had to take it easy for awhile. I havent had any trouble with it since then.

Had the same thing bro. Did most of my pressing movements on an incline which seemed to help and used Hammer Strength for any of the pressing movements that I would have done otherwise. I used these movements called "Jobe" exercises which is what pitchers use from all those hours of throwing at 90+ mph. It helped big time and actually I think my chest grew during the time I was trying to rehab my shoulder because I was really focusing on the chest and had to use lighter weights.

Small partial tears should heal. I have known a plenty of people with them. Ortho will most likely prescribe physcial therapy, ultrasound etc. and ease you into roator cuff exercises. You should refrain from upper body for awhile. You may have to limit certain exercise as they impinge those tendons more. Exercise such as upright rows are the worse. Exercise with hands internaley roated. So if you do dumbell presses you would benefit to changing to a hammer grip. Same thing with lat pulldowns. A narrow close grip with the row machine grip handle would be better as it takes you out of internal rotation. After you heal up you shoudl incorporate roator cuff exercise as a permanent plan to your lifting program

So sugery is not always the answer?
I want to compete in Nov at the Nationals
Will I have a anof time to rehab and still get ready?

Thanks

Try A.R.T. and/or graston which is usually performed by a chiropractor first.

Took the words right out of my mouth Chris. I had a supraspinatus severe strain 4-5 years ago, and I got 4 sessions (1 a week) of ART. 4 weeks later I was healed. ART has worked wonderfully for me..

Hi John!

How are you? Do you mean by ART = Active release?

I'm good brother!

Yep - that's what I meant. A session takes about 20 minutes...works wonders..you should results after 2 sessions...

Let me know how it goes..
