Ronnie . . . I have watched or listened to about all since his retirement because this
is when you really find out what kind of person he and most bodybuilders are. Before
that, it is all marketing baby. My opinion.
With one exception (below), every video interview since his retirement and subsequent
surgeries, he has had this 'thousand yard stare' and a bit fumbling for words and he
does not come off as the most articulate person in the room in my opinion. (I am
not in a position to speculate as to why.)
But make no mistake; Ronnie is a very smart person. (You can forget about intelligence
in the gym; we all have different motivations, tolerances, goals, egos, etc.) He just
comes across in a way that belies his underlying intelligence at least in most(?) videos
after his his retirement. I will not speculate on the why's and wherefores but he has
sounded better and looked better.
The best interview I have ever heard with Ronnie is with Joe Rogan, #1489, June 10, 2020.
I listened to it on a long distance hike in Yosemite National Park with my wife back in
September and it made the miles just evaporate under my feat. Even listened to it twice.
It covers all the aspects of his life. It was very refreshing and enlightening and he goes to
great lengths to highlight the importance of great, world-class genetics for success in this
sport which he admits many times, that he has and which credits his success to.
If you haven't, it is worth a listen in my humble opinion.
