Newest Addition to the Family

Ive got a nice installed radar/laser jammer installed on my 911 turbo. It really works well on laser. Has saved my ass a few times and give piece of mind on the highway. Ever have one of them? One of these:

Lol I had a Valentine 1 back in high school and still got nailed all the time

Well, most patrol on the highway use laser now and this has a jammer on it that makes it so they cant get a reading. Its legal and it works.

Wowww I had no idea. Which model do you have?

When the escort jammer first came out many years ago, I heard there were some holes in its laser coverage. Back then, Laser Interceptor, I think was the top one. I'm sure, a lot has changed since then. I'm curious, have you been able to test it with someone who actually had a radar gun to see how well and at what distances it gave you coverage?

The model I have is no longer made, but either one of the ones on that page would have laser jammers. Its pretty cool. When a cop tags you the audible alert goes off and you slow down of course. Once you get down to legal speed you push a button and turn off the jammer so that the cop gets a speed reading finally. It has never failed me. A couple of times I was going over 100 mph when I got tagged.

It is a 997 turbo.

Never tested it other than real world, like when the cops tag me. No ticket so far. I did replace the older jammer with a new one when I bought the car used. The newer the jammer the better of course. It is a module, so you can replace the jammer without putting in a whole new system. Saves a lot of money. If you are really good with tool, you can install it on your own. At least they used to sell them like that. Mine was already in the 911 when I bought it.

Slesh, if you put the wrap on the car you can take it off later and not hurt the paint right? Ive never done a wrap, but really like the look of some of them. It is very expensive though. I really like the color of yours, but it sure is a cop magnet being so bright. My silver 911 seems to fly under the radar a lot. I also bet youll get a lot of young guys wanting to race you too.

Even maintaining my 911 turbo gets expensive. I had to have the camshafts fixed up and they had to drop the whole engine and tranmission. i had some older parts replaced and other stuff done like new spark plugs since everything was out of the engine bay. Cost me $10,000. The check engine light is a damn scary thing!
Maintenance is the one big thing I dread with cars these days.

Putting aside the cost of parking here, and the required annual inspection, maintenance is my number one reason for avoiding owning a car nowadays.
There are a lot of nice cars for very little money in Japan, but cost of ownerships ruins the fun.

There are 67 used 997s alone right now. (sorry link is in Japanese, but your browsers should translate the basics OK).

This one is like mine, and a fair price because that has low miles.

If you buy one with a mezger engine like mine, a 997 gt3 or turbo, make sure that the coolant lines have been tacked down somehow and I would ask if the camshafts have been pinned. There is a sleeve on the camshaft that can come lose and move when it should not.

So the wrap actually protects the original paint job. It's not too bad pricewise either. My guy down here does 3m wraps for under 5k. Not trying to poo poo 5k, just saying if you were to paint a vehicle matte black it could be 15-20k. So spending 180k on a car and then being able to make it any color you want for 5k doesn't seem too bad to me. And the other cool thing is you can re-wrap it another color in a year or two if you want a change. Or just take it off and you still have the factory paint job. Somewhat of a win win...

Naw. I never really learned on a manual and wanted the fastest model, so got an automatic.
I really wanted stick. My 2015 911 was a 7spd. Sadly they don't make the turbos or R8's in stick anymore or I may have gotten a new one or maybe a 2010 R8 V10 in stick. Paddle def faster tho. I was looking at old gated 6spd Ferrari 550s but as everyone mentioned above maintenance is already a pain in the dick on Rari's, imagine one from 1999... Lol I got money but I can't be randomly dropping 20k on clutches, bubbling dashes and all the other crap that goes along with it.

Dude your car is so clean!! Yea wraps protect the paint, are a lot cheaper, and they have a huge selection of colors.
The wraps are really cool. Another thing I like is the ceramic coatings they put on over top of your paint. The coating gives the look of a fresh wax coat year round and to clean all you do is wash. No more waxing needed.

Good to know it spares the paint. Ive been doing upgrades to my car, so ive been spending the cash on that. $5000 got me a new racing exhaust. If I didn't like my color, I'd definitely get a wrap.
