Congrats to Scott on getting him on the podcast and pulling this interview off. Pretty sure he’s a member here?

Still working through the podcast now but it’s been a great watch so far

Ah thanks a lot man. What really fascinates me with Nick is at the beginning of the year, so many people had written him off, saying he was washed up, blown out and should retire. Now the tide has turned and if he wins or not, he will be the people's champ. I get it. He's showing vulnerability and honesty plus his physique is looking insane. As someone pointed out in the comments, he has grown a lot as a person in the last several years and he's also become a great speaker in the process. Personally, I'm cheering for him to win

Why is he the people’s champ?

He’s been kind of known as a sore loser. Sitting out the last 2 Olympias hasn’t really helped his case regardless of reason.

I personally would pick Derek or Samson as the face of the sport to represent bodybuilding.

I don't know about the peoples champ but having spoken to him privately a few times he is very honest and genuine and kind. I think he might be a little socially awkward and uncomfortable with some of the lime light and thus has made some immature decisions in the past. And you can't hold the Olympia he tore his hamstring against him. So there is some what of a "comeback/return" and everyone always loves an underdog. Same way WWE gets fans to go from booing a heel character to rooting for them as a fan favorite.

He was abused as a child by a familie member, that can make anyone "socially awkward"

I say that based off how people seem to perceive him in the feedback I'm hearing, talking to listeners of the podcasts and reading comments. It used to be that if I mentioned Nick on a show, everyone would come out of the woodwork to trash him haha. Not the case today. Absolutely, there are a TON of crazy looking dudes that are going into this year's Olympia. In fact, I'd consider this one of the most competitive O's in some time especially if Hadi can make it. I personally think the whole top 10 is going to be exciting. Samson has that old school Tony Freeman X frame and impossible lines with crazy mass. Derek, at this year's Arnold was SO good. That look was one of the best I have witnessed in person in my life but from what I'm seeing, a lot of people are rooting for Nick to make a big comeback. That is a huge shift from the start of the year, where it seemed like everyone was saying he was washed up, blown out and should retire. I have personally not seen people get more passionate about anyone else this year.

Whatever happens, I'm just hoping everyone comes in at their best because it will make for an incredible show regardless of who wins.

And one more thing. Totally agree with you about the attitude he has put out there. I think that soured a lot of people toward him. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I just want to see the best in people, but based off what I'm seeing now, it seems like going through a couple really tough years has given him some perspective and he has done some growing up in the process 👊

Scott, great interview with Nick, I really enjoyed it. It does seem like Nick has matured into a more seasoned BB with a better perspective with life and realizing what best supports his goals. Like you said Scott, so much talent coming into this year's O. But Nick does look like he's on target to look his best and has a great perspective on how to make that happen, but we'll see. I've always rooted for Nick, I wish him the best in the upcoming O.

100% agree. I give him infinite credit for talking about it openly. That takes major balls. Having spoken to him briefly privately I think he is genuine and much more comfortable outside the limelight. Totally fair.

I'm not terribly surprised to hear him mentioned as a 'people's champ.' I'd liken it to Roelly—an absolutely massive freak who, to some, is the epitome of bodybuilding and brings real energy for the fans.

I don't see him ever winning the Olympia unless guys like Samson and Derek don't show up. That said, he seems like a good kid (I'm from the Boston area and old, so pretty much everyone gets called a 'kid'), and I hope he continues to do what he so clearly loves.

ask him what his cycle is next time

Agree 100% man, i think he doesnt fair well in the spotlight because he doesnt like being there.

Nobody that bodybuilds cares about his steroid cycle because we all know if we took the same exact cycle. We still wouldn’t look anywhere close to him.
facts

much rather hear about the diet and training, with maybe some ancillary supps like slu/reta/etc
