Ive been doing very low carbs (from veggies and post workout) for a while. I was curious is it ok to head to the gym without a substantial amount of complex carbs pre-workout....say a all protein pre-workout meal and maybe just a big bowl of vegetables? thanks -StOrY

not for me

but if you have no problems training at full intensity go for it

A low carb diet is never good for a bodybuiler. Carb cycling is such a better choice with low/normal/high carb days. If I carb cycle I will still have carbs before and after gym, even on low days (unless I train late at night).

Ideally some thing like a 70:30 ratio of carbs:protein should be consumed about 1.5-2 hours or so before you hit the gym. I like to put a bit of oatmeal (1/3-1/4) cup in my post work out shake. Fueling off of only protein in the gym, it's going to be hard to give it your all.

Carb cycling is indeed the way to go for cutting up. I usually low carb to 100-150 grams for 3 days and carb load at 350 for one day. On all days, the majority of carbs are taken before and after the workouts. This method really helps you not feel any lack in energy levels, even though you are dieting hard.

Thank the lord! lol .....This low carb thing was starting to kill me!! Carb cycling it is then...Ive done some research on it in the past..just never attempted it. How many low carb, high carb, med. carb days per week? Thanks for the input.. -StOrY

Currently I'm carb cycling and I just have high and low days. 1 high/2 low. My high days are 230 average and low days are right below 100.

I work out Mon, Wed, and Fri. so how would this look......

Mon.-high
tue.-low
Wed.-high
thur.-low
friday-high

and im not too sure what to do on the weekends? any suggestions? thanks -StOrY

p.s. on Tuesday Thursday and Sat. Sun. Ill be doing about 45 min. cardio also.

High/low/high/low won't work too well, you need atleast 2 low days in a row IMO. Majority of your days in a week should be low day's if your goal is to lose body fat. about 3-4 low days in a row is pretty good for fat burning. These are also the days you want to focus on your cardio. You can effectively be on a low carb diet for 3-4 days no problem, it's not so long that your body will get adusted to the diet, or to get you too depleted. part of the reason you have a high/carb day is to trick your body, and so you don't adapt to the low carb diet, losing its effectiveness.
