You diminished your point by leading off with calling this a handout. All he asked for were directions. And he was hired based upon the positive impression he inadvertently made upon the man. The business owner hired him only because he felt it was a good investment. A guy throwing the salt himself probably can't afford to hire someone based only on charity. He isn't a Government Agency.

Bricklayer labourers and forms hardest jobs in construction pays 32.75 (its a union job) however they are always looking for new labourers because noone wants to work that fuckin b.s job and/ or they think they do and they dont last / they tarp up in the winter so your right not much work but still 5 days in 2 weeks at 32.75 beats 10 days at 10.75
