Hey there guys could you Please help a small guy get thru this problem? My deal is Tuesday July 24 @ 5:30 am I got to go have my ACL repaired and the doc said it would take 3 mths before i could do squats again, so i told the wife she had to bring up the 40lb and 80lb dumbbells to the living room so i can still train my arms,shoulders,chest. but the more i think about it the more i get depressed because i know the workout will not be the same. Any ideas how long I'll be out? thanks engbulldog:mad:
 
Bro, I KNOW this is not what you want there but you have to stay off that knee. The most rest applied the better it will heal. Also, going to PT will help restore the strength and flexibility of your knee. Maybe some usage of HGH may accelerate the healing process. Good luck to you and your healing bro.
 
Thanks bro, yeah I'm gonna see if my doc can give me a scrip for gh but i know it wont work but it doesnt hurt to try
 
workout

I had my hip replaced and was told no more squats ever. It does suck but at least you will be able to di it soon. But it sounds as you need to hit the work outs hard right away. If your wife can carry your 80 lbs dumbells around, she may kick your butt if you don't.
 
DO NOT WORRY

I just had my done in Jan.
I lost 3" off my left leg, but it is slowwly coming back. Just keep up your pt.
My dock banned me for life doing leg extentions. He told me it was the worst for acl's. I also took out my cartlidge in between the knee to and it was 3 months before I could slow jog on the tread mill. I have got back most of my strenth back but I still have to wait 6 more months before going back to any sports. Just remember muscle memory. I never stopped training through this whole process as I was told I could always train the upper half and take it slow on my legs and stop if it hurts at any time until I'm strong enough.
What sucks is this last Friday I crashed my bike at 45mph and now my right leg and right arm is going to be out for a while. I'm taking 1-2 week off and I will start training again. I have bad luck and I'm always down but I never stop training.

bro as said before the more you stay off it the better it is.i had it done i was out for about 3 to 4 weeks then i went back to the gym.i still had it wraped up but if i was able to go to rehab for it i going to go to the gym too.but then again some people heal faster than others.im a worrior i heal quick.i just had surgery on my right shoulder just last monday and monday this week i was back at the gym.dont get me wrong im not pushing myself back to the gym i just feel heald enough to go back..if i didn't i would stay home as long as needed to recover.its not smart to hurry back and hurt yourself.use you best jugdement.good luck bro.
 
thanks guys, my doc said leg curls are the best thing to help the acl. if i lose 3" off my left leg that would suck so bad cuz my legs are only 25" to start with, Yeah my new wife rocks but i had to buy a new lawn mower that she wanted so she can mow while I'm down but hey I got a new mower:D Back in 91' i had my right knee scoped and i was walking in 2 days but i think the acl is gonna take a bit longer?!:( Thanks again guys engbulldog
 
bro in my experience as pt rehab, inactivity is never good, reread that!!!! i do not mean trainin, but just actrivity to keep full rom.legs extns suck periodfor knees......... open kinetic chain movements are hard on the concerned joint.

stick to bodybweight squatswhen able without pain, and leg press etc, good luck brother
 
I do a lot of work with the local physio. just do what they tell you to do. DO NOT PUSH THIS! or you will be worse off than before you had it done. Your physio will get you back as quick as possible. You can do all the upper body stuff you like as long as you stay off of the knee. Meaning don't put any extra stress on it. In activity is not good. The docs and PT will tell you this. But do not overdo it! Good luck with your recovery and you'll be back at it in no time!

i was run down by a car and had the right ankle crushed as in my foot and ankle was totally flat in my shoe and the femur snapped on my left leg.. i was walking up and down stairs in 1 month, squatting in 3(lightly) and back to squatting 380 for 12 in 6months...

realize it is a setback you cant avoid...

i was doing GH shots in the hospital also which helped signifigantly according to my doc whom i admitted it to when they asked how i was healing so fast..

however i am saddened as i now have limited ROM in my ankle not allowing me to do free squats.. i have to do safety squats so i can not bend my ankle as much and sit into the squat more... but hey.. i am thankful every leg day.. as they initially wanted to take my foot off cuz it was soooo fucked...
 
bro, i had the same surgery a few years back and going into it i didnt think it was going to be that bad but i was wrong...it sucked ass. i was on crutches for a month and i lost a lot of leg mass. my knee felt "not right" for about a year. not trying to be negative man just honest. i agree with oldfella, dont push it and listen to your doc and pt. when they give you the clearance to train concentrate on getting that leg equal to your healthy one before you get back into your normal leg routine. i started a thread a couple days ago asking about the best way to do this (seeing as how my legs are still uneven by about an inch) and i got some good ideas so you might want to check that out.
