BSN® - THE WORLD LEADER IN CUTTING EDGE PHYSIQUE & PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS™ - Blogs: Dennis Wolf, Dennis Wolf

Well, I will tell everyone the truth: I am done with gurus. I think it is too easy to become dependent on them, and then if they are not there when you need them the most, things can turn out very badly for you. This was my experience last year at the Olympia, and this weekend in New York I once again had problems with my trainer - now my former trainer.

In the days coming into the show, I was looking crazy. Diet was good, shape was good, everything. But by Saturday night, I was not full enough. If you are not full, your muscles lose their shape and hardness...you don't look so ripped, you lose striations - this is what happened to me. What this tells me is that I didn't eat enough during the carb-loading phase. Looking back now, I was always hungry during carb-loading; this should not happen. You should be eating so much that you don't want any more; but I was always hungry, and still my trainer told me not to eat more. This was a mistake.

After pre-judging, we saw I was a little flat, and my trainer told me to eat some rice and a banana. I said, "I don't have any more bananas." He said this was ok; maybe I should eat a burger. This is the one night we have been working so hard for, and he is not sure what advice to give me? I will be honest - I was very upset.

What I ended up doing is eating about 600 grams of dry cake between pre-judging and finals. I filled up a little bit, and looked much better for the finals. So, third place is ok for now. I know what happened, and I know what I have to do now. What's done is done; I can't change it. But from now on, I will do everything by myself. I have had enough of the gurus. I know what works; I won the German Championships, I won the World Championships, and I turned pro doing everything myself. So I will go back to what I've done in the past.

Honestly, I think I could have taken second place. But I am happy for Hide; I know him and he is a good guy, and he deserves his success. I also want to say congratulations to Roelly; to win a show in your first year is fantastic.

I would also like to thank BSN® for all their support. They've been unbelievable to me, and I really appreciate everything. Thank you guys very much.

Well, this week I am just going to train my legs a little bit. I will have five weeks off, and then I will begin my prep for the Olympia. I think it's a good amount of time in between; I will be ready. This weekend was not a bad start, but I am still determined to show everybody what I can do.

I know who he used for the Olympia but I wonder who he used for this show...his former trainer I mean?

I believe this is a great move for Das Wolf. From what I've read about his prep failures, it seems like his metabolism is too responsive for anyone to figure out but Dennis himself. I wish him the best and hopefully he makes it back to the top 6 again at the O.

Chad prepped him for the last couple of Olympia's and if I recall correctly from a vid that was posted on RX or MD that an old trainer he had from Germany was prepping him for the NY Pro. I may be mistaken though.

Wow to hear that a so called guru did not have his diet down and to guess on his carbs is outrageous. I like Dennis and I hope he does nail it at the O and place in the top 5.

Comes off as a nice guy. We all know he is capable of better showings and look forward to him getting back to his roots so to speak.

I like dennis a lot and want to see him stay on the curcuit for many years to come. Sometimes when you fall down you learn a valuable lesson. Making the time when you get back up worth every minute of your life. I wish him all the best and hope he nails it come Olympia time. top 5 would be awesome.
(for me anyway :D )

From the sound of both of his stories it seems like he is the one to blame rather than who he is listening (or not listening) to. It always sounds so incoherent, like his guru's are retards or something? :D Could be so but then why is he with them to begin with?

It could also merely be a language problem, in that case someone should bring him into contact with the great Phil 'Sauerkraut' Hernon

Well, he was not in shape 1 week out at his guest posing.......I like his look......you can blame whoever you want to but carbing up does not make a bodybuilder........it is so over rated........people say they are flat, blablabla......if you do not have enough muscle you will be flat..........ever see Vic Richards, Levrone, Haney, Ray, Jackson, Yates, Ruhl, Cutler.......look flat?? No, its about muscle and being lean......it may even be better to not carb up at all for him....he needs to rethink a few things.

just a guess but he looked overly-dehdrated to me, too much diuretics perhaps??? and of course that would make anyone look flat

A man with such weak calves should not be allowed to win a pro show, no matter how good of shape he comes in. For pete's sake, at least get some oil in there and fake it....

word on the street is dennis has a tough time listening to said gurus anyway.

he should go with aceto

Must be a banana shortage in New York.

You mean a pro with weak calves shouldn't win a pro show?

Like this guy? ;) Lot of top guys win shows with crappy calves.

why the hell did dexter win so many arnold titles and the o? sould denis be the only one penalized?

I think Dennis's training with this particular trainer was good (from the vids). He trained blood and guts style (Yates) and shifted some heavy weight. He looked good in the video's and enjoyed the style of training.

The trainer is also in the video's and is a IFBB Pro himself from the past. His name is Patrick Tour from Switzerland.

Its good that he's going alone I think. If it does'nt go according to plan, he only has himself to blame.

I truly respect the knowledge that gurus have. But you would think that these pros who have been doing this for years would know their bodies well enough to not need them anyway.

I think of mma fighters who always have something they have to learn and constantly have to train to be a better fighter.

Does the human body change that much from year to year that they cant just dial in once and then repeat it all the time?

If this is stupid I apologize I dont know the answer so I am asking.

I think alot of these "Gurus" have success with a couple big name pros at shows and then suddenly they are "The Guru" and then people think they will make them also win shows. In alot of cases the science behind their dieting theories is totally out to lunch. I think there is far better low profile and amatuer trainers out there and they don't charge a fortune. I think Dennis is better off going it on his own also.

This statement reminds me of Tony Freeman's recent rant on PBW radio last week. It's someone else's fault I'm perfect, bleah, bleah.

These guys start believing their own hype and they get turned around and start going backwards. It's a shame but neither Freeman nor Wolf are turning out to have the thing inside that makes a champion.
