why steroids get such a bad rep.
this guy is a cocaine abbusing, drugdealing, pimp/scumbag.....who used steroids as a reason for all this? what the fuck. he was just a fuckin scumfuck from the get go.

article:
Nowadays, it’s not such a crazy thing to see a police officer go down for using steroids but it is rare to see them caught selling steroids. And, in the case of this crooked cop, it’s even rarer for them to dish out advice on how to buy and receive steroids through the mail afterwards. Plus make sure to see what hilarious defense comments this officer had to say to try and save his own skin.

Police officers enter the force with every intention of doing the right things when they are given their badge. They want to uphold the law and also want to protect people from harm while they are on duty. Some of these officers may even long for the assumed adventure and high speed chases that are the stuff of movies.

But in reality, often these cops’ jobs turn into nitpicking sessions where they bust people for expired license plate stickers, sit around in their cruisers waiting for speeders, and deal with what are seemingly the same type of drunks over and over again until they wonder why they even joined the force in the first place. And on top of all this, they have tons of paperwork to do so they’ll never be without a dull moment.

So maybe being a police officer isn’t all that Hollywood makes it out to be as there is plenty of downtime on the scene. However, I’d be willing to bet that any cop who isn’t having a whole lot of fun at their job right now would rather things stay the same way than choose to take the route that Boston police officer Roberto Pulido did.

Roberto Pulido is an officer who recently received a lengthy 26 year prison term for being a major part of a steroid and hardcore drug distribution ring. He had so many charges against him that the prosecutors threw out a lot of the stuff like steroid distribution and steroid conspiracy charges and just went straight for the biggest charge in conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The truth is though that Pulido’s troubles were a long time coming even before he put on a badge, got busted for steroid smuggling, or gave what might be one of the most ridiculous court defenses of all time.

Pulido was born in Boston’s Hyde Square which would become one of the worst neighborhoods of the 80’s and 90s. Police even called the area “The Cocaine Capitol of Boston” to put the picture in a clearer perspective. But cocaine wasn’t the only thing that Pulido was exposed to as gang activity was also heavily present in Hyde Square too. High school was no picnic for Pulido either as some of his classmates were founders of some of the biggest gangs in the whole city.

What if you could finally...

Pulido eventually escaped the Hyde Park area as he got married after high school and moved to Mission Hill with his wife Karen Soares. Things were looking up for Roberto as he and his wife had a child and he joined the Marine Corps reserves. But things weren’t meant to be for Roberto and Karen as they divorced. Compounding things was the fact that his father died from cancer too.

Eventually, Pulido would get back on his feet after these struggles and start a new life with a new woman in Evelyn Tucker. The year 1996 saw Roberto enter the Boston Police Academy and it is here where he would go on to graduate and earn a position in the Boston Police Department’s District E-13 station.

Pulido’s “decorated” career started off by him witnessing plenty of corruption and scandal by fellow officers in his area. First a pair of detectives in Walter Robinson and Kenneth Acerra got caught stealing money and drugs from raids they conducted on gangs. Then lawsuits were filed against several Boston PD officers when a man by the name of Stephan Cowans was wrongfully convicted for a suspicious shooting. Besides these headline-making incidences, there were plenty of other cops in the E-13 area who had their own past corruption problems - making this one crooked district.

With all the corruption surrounding him, Pulido wasn’t far behind his fellow men in blue as he began using cocaine with a local criminal. And it didn’t take too long for him to get busted for it either as he failed two department drug tests which got him suspended for a mere 45 days. Surprisingly, nothing else came out of this ordeal as Pulido went on about his business after joining the force again.

Some of that business included various side jobs and projects he would undertake such as plowing parking lots, doing summer carpentry, starting a machine shop, and beginning a construction company. More importantly though, Roberto Pulido was forming a number of contacts and connections that he would call upon in the future for an entirely different business from the previous ones he had attempted.

A warning sign of the activities Pulido was getting involved in was when he got shot by someone while he was in a shady area of Boston when supposedly on duty. His bulletproof vest saved him but the weird thing was that he didn’t call for backup right away and didn’t really identify the shooter to police. Nevertheless, he was treated like a hero afterwards. The truth is though that he never would have been hailed as a hero if people had known why he was in the area at that time or what his recent activities were.

While making the previously mentioned contacts doing odd jobs and starting businesses, Pulido happened to meet an American fugitive who was hiding in Greece most of the time. This fugitive was able to supply Roberto with steroids and other drugs to which Pulido began using towards new business ventures. One of these ventures included parties Roberto ran out of a building he owned. The parties would typically cost $20-$40 to get into and people would then use drugs, pay $20- $40 for lap dances in the “boom-boom room”, and even pay $100 for sex.

In addition to the wild and expensive parties he threw, Pulido also predictably sold the drugs he bought such as steroids to locals and people abroad. However, Pulido’s little empire would soon come crumbling down after a high school friend of his got busted and ratted him out to the feds. The feds then went undercover to get more evidence against Roberto before taking him down. But if you think the story ends here, you’d be totally wrong as things were just beginning.

With insurmountable evidence pointing his way, Roberto Pulido began cooperating with the authorities and revealing his activities to them more in-depth. He told them how he regularly smuggled steroids such as Dianabol, Winstrol, Deca Durabolin, and Testosterone in.

Then ensued one of the most laughable and ridiculous court defenses in the history of the justice system. Pulido and his lawyer took the stance that the reason he said and did the things he did was because of his steroid addiction. His lawyer argued that Pulido exaggerated comments he made on surveillance tapes and that he told undercover feds that he could easily transport cocaine into Boston because he was pumped full of so many steroids.

And I’m really surprised that they didn’t just let this guy go free as he had another great defense to go along with the steroids one. Pulido and his lawyer told the courtroom that the other reason he made the taped statements was because he had seen too many movies where corrupt police officers committed crimes to get ahead in life. Basically he was trying to lead the courtroom to believe that he had a hard time separating fact from fiction and was acting in front of the agents.

He even said that he was an avid fan of the movie Training Day and stated that he memorized lines from the film starring Denzel Washington. According to Pulido, “Anyone who knows me knows that I was acting. It was pure puffery.”

Apparently the jury didn’t think it was pure puffery as they handed him the aforementioned 26 year sentence despite his emotionally moving and well thought out defense speech. And it was a defense speech that brought more negative attention to steroids. Because, while everyone probably laughed at his acting/movies defense, some people may not have been laughing at the steroids part. Those who have absolutely no knowledge of roids and are blinded enough by the media may actually believe that steroids could make someone behave this way.

Looking at the bright side though, maybe Pulido can get into some acting classes while he’s in prison and improve upon his skills

sooo, are you saying that clincal addiction to steroids is a fallacy?

This always boils down to an argument over semantics. Medically speaking, AAS are not addictive because they don't create a physical dependency. Of course, one can always become "addicted" to them in the same way one could become a gambling addict.

its not really semantics, addiction is both physical and psychological

definition of addiction: Is characterized by the repeated use of a substance or behavior despite clear evidence of negative consequences resulting from the use of the substance or behavior. Addiction usually has two components – physical addiction and psychological addiction.

there are certainly those out there who continue to use even though they are negatively affecting their health, so im not sure how its semantics when its one and the same....

oh well O/T anyway

This is what I mean when it boils down to semantics. If we're talking about physical addiction, steroids are not addictive. If we open up the discussion to include psychological addiction, sure, we can say they're addictive, but so is just about everything else in the world. I'm addicted to TV, to sex, to collecting baseball cards, to shopping, etc, etc. It becomes meaningless to characterize an activity as addictive, because almost anything can qualify.

its not really the same, because you are not watching tv, having sex, collecting baseball cards and shopping to a point where it negatively affects your health, well being and your relationships with others. therein lies the qualification for addiction, you continue doing it at the expense of your own well being and the well being of those close to you, whether you want to continue or not..

and certainly physiological symptoms can manifest themselves as a result of a psychological addiction. ex. pot is not physically addictive, but people coming off using often experience physical withdrawal symptoms (depression, sleeplessness, mood swings etc.)

"he told undercover feds that he could easily transport cocaine into Boston because he was pumped full of so many steroids."

this is because certain steroids can make you invisible.
