O/T - Any Recovered Heroin Addicts on the Board?

I am struggling with heroin addiction, and just curious if there were any recovered heroin addicts on the board.

Can't speak for the board, but I personally know of two people who recovered from it... for good. So yes, absolutely, it's feasible!

The main factor IMO being to have lots of supportive people around you.

I believe that the biggest thing with any addiction is to stay way from situations and people that could get you to use. I have a friend who has had 4 DUI's in the last 5 months. He should never see the inside of a bar again because he cant have just one. Just like you can't use heroine recreationally. Now, I like cocaine, but I know that if I use it more than once in a great while, I could get in over my head. Also, I have responsiblities to my family. So I can't let myself go overboard with any drug.

I'm 3 years 2months Clean off H. if you told me i would come out of the Mess three years I would have just laughed. i thought i would be dead. Opiates are NOTHING to mess with. Even if your getting them for pain, because there are just as many people that have Legitimate uses as far as Pain go In Rehab as there are Junkies. but I did every other drug i could get my hands on to escape my shitty reality that was my life, I was pretty heavily into many rec drugs and alcohol from 1974 til the late 80's when I joined my first gym and gave it all up, I was an unhappy, crazy, high energy, reckless punk basically who hated life and people ( my brother was murdered) so I took anything and everything that I could find to alter my state of mind. Anyway addictions are all the same and you need to recognize that and GET HELP. Life is so much better when you are actually present, I thank god I straightened out before my daughter was born. There is no shame in saying that you are an addict and need help. Not sure what state your in but I am sure there is help there if you seek it. PLEASE GET HELP.

ok.. where do i start? My older brother shot dope for 13 years. Lived on the streets of atlantic city for about 6. straight up BUM! He is now a personal trainer and just opened a supplement shop on feb 14th... i have never in my life met somone so addicted to herion then him.. and he is alive and doing well.

My younger brother also became addicted to herion, after a few years of messing with oxys.. and perks...

and me? YUP! you guessed it... u would think growing up without my brother around because of herion id stay far away from drugs huh? NOPE! ( my poor fuckin parents :/

Im still on suboxone... been 2 years now... i beleived it saved my life.. But at the same time, my body is now addicted to it so when i try an come off i get sick.... worse then dope sick.... yea.. i just said WORSE then dope sick

swallow your ego.. and get your ass to an NA meeting... as hard as it is raise your hand and tell them u are struggling... tell them u just wanted to get that off your chest. At the end of the meeting u will have atleast 3-4 good ppl come up and talk to u. DO WHAT THEY SAY... go to 90 meetings in 90 days.. they are clean for a reason. EVEN IF WHAT THEY ARE SAYING MAKES NO SENSE SHUT UP..AND LISTEN TO EVERY WORD THEY SAY TO U AND IN THE MEETINGS.... I have 1.5 years of soboriety time. Go to AA a couple times a week, and I am good to go!!! Got a great sponsor for support!

One of the best things I did was live in the ghetto of Chicago for a few years. 80% of the people I knew there were doing some sort of drugs. I saw some of my women and friends drugs use and how it just destroy their soul, mind and life. So I stayed away.

I realized someone on drugs will love you and their family, but they love those drugs just a little more.

there is a way out of your troubles my friend...its called NA (NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS)....regular attendance of meetings...get a sponsor and allow him to guide you thru the 12 steps...remember you never have to feel that way again...god bless

I did what ever I could get my hands on. I started drinking at the age of 10. I was also sniffing glue and paint. Pot at age 11 and dealing by 12. Started coke by 14 and acid, pcp, pills, crack, heroine etc. etc. etc. I am Irish but I had friends whose parents had mob ties. Can not say much about that but I can tell you when I was a kid I was a real PR and into everything. When I graduated high school, yes I did graduate, I was drinking well over a case a day. My bio teacher grew weed. He used to add dbol to the plant to make it grow. He was nuts. Sorry off topic. Any how, mine was more of a spiritual experience. I was 20 when I broke away from that life style. I am pushing 38 now. It is not easy with out support. First you have to admit the problem and want the help that is offered. I know a lot of guys who died trying to beat this. Pride is the killer. It is hard to admit defeat but if you do not surrender you will die. I still go to a meeting maybe once a week or so and I am a spiritual guide (sponsor) as well. Send me a PM if you ever want to talk. You can even call me. The only thing I can tell is this. You need to get on maintenance. Not detox. But full on Maintenance. Then stay away from everyone and every place that reminds you of dope. Try to workout and stay productive. Learn to train and eat healthy. Live the lifestyle and when you do all this, as time passes ween yourself off. You need to totally leave everything behind. Bro it takes time. Don't forget to always pray. He will hear you and will help you, if you really want help. He will help those that help themselves. Its the only way out, thru God. If you think not, you will just be back in the thick of it. Been there, down that. Surrender brother.

I lived with a younger brother that for years was addicted to heroin, then it became speed/meth. I have to say that he is alive and well and has found himself a good place. He just recently completed his 2nd MMA fight with a 2-0 record and has set himself up nicely for a shot at the bigs. It can be done, if ya need something let me know. I learned about this in a different light. He wasn't a physical addict, he could set it down. his problem was he was socially addicted, he didn't know his place within his peer group. he did what he could to fit in and has paid for it severly. Many medical problems, many last minute life saving surgeries to repair the damage he created. If I can help let me know, I think you've gotten some good advice so far. Find someone close, not related or even a friend, someone who's been there and made it, they will give it to you the way you need to hear it and can help!

Dude, Wish I had something insightfull to say but I don't. I've struggled with alcohol addition most of my adult life. I've learned to control it over time and keep it to a reasonable minimum but I have no idea what Heroin is like; I've nver done it thank god.

I beleive in the human spirit though and that is enough sometimes. Find the path you would like to follow and figure out why you want to follow it. Do that and Your inner spirit will give you the strength to see it through.

Recovered Heroin Addict here

Been of heroin for 10 years. Used a methadone program. Been off the methadone for 9 1/2 years. Still struggle with the alcohol from time to time. But it's a hell of a lot better than being a junkie. I'm not a daily drinker either just drink more than I should sometimes. I'll just always be Ones to many and a hundreds never enough kind of guys.
