i heard about this on espn. so sad. they said that Josh Hamilton (the player who tossed him the ball) was pretty beat up about it too. his 6 yr old son watched him fall over the railing.
saw this a few days ago on sports center before work...it it terrible but man im still confused at why ppl go to extremes just to get a foul ball..if youve ever been to a ball game youll know what im talkin about cause ppl go after it like its a $100 bill...is it the sentimental value..cause you can buy a ball for 3 bucks at any sporting goods store..regardless though terrible and wasnt the first death to happen this year...apparently there was one in colorado too
guy got caught up in moment, josh was kids fav player so, you know he was gonna catch that ball, just wasn't paying attention...........sad,feel bad for the kid and his wife
Don't think there are fines in MLB...but they asked him if he would stop throwing them into the stands and Josh said "no, it's part of the sport and fans expect it".
Can you imagine that poor 6 year old kid losing his father and having strangers have to take him home? I think the father was still alive for a little and asked people to take care of his kid. That tears my heart out....

It didn't look like he needed to lean over that far to catch it, either. He was either a really good dad for trying to get that ball for his son or he was a very foolish dad for not safeguarding his life first before attempting that risky catch.
I hope his family can cope with this huge loss in a healthy manner. My prayers are with them.
The guy that died was wearing flip flops, maybe if he had been wearing some real shoes he wouldnt have fallen. Flip flops are dangerous on many levels and I would never wear them except for going to the pool or beach. I cant belive people wear flip flops out in public to be honest, what if they had to fight or run?

Really dude? Yeah, I always chose my wardrobe for the day based off of what kind of crime fighting experiences I will have... Bottom line is you can't beat gravity, regardless of what shoes you're wearing. And you're 100% sure that he wouldn't have fallen? He reached very far(obviously) wtf are flip flops going to do when your legs are dangling in the air.

Im not sure he would have fallen, but wearing Flip Flops could have contributed, its easy to lose you balance in them and you are more prone to falling.
I think they need to make those railings a bit higher. I wonder if there is a standard height for those or something that the law requires. Maybe its time that they raise it. The railing in the video looks to be the same as the one here in my city. After wathcing that again it looks like the guy was really tall, and that of course doesnt help matters. Such a terrible thing that happened.
