O/T Car prep for a 2k mile trip?

2000 honda accord 110,000miles. Treated very well, never had a problem yet. New tires/breaks, change oil before leaving, new airfilter, just got auto tranny service done, empty gas can in trunk, few gals of water(radiator emergency) Spare tire with jack,gps. Driving it from the west coast to midwest about 2,000miles. Any other pre-cautions? Thanks guys.

yea duct tape incase anything starts leaking , and take a couple gallons of water in case u need it

I would only wonder if the timing belt/chain had ever been replaced and if the coolant had been changed, and if it had been recently tuned up, other than that it sounds good

Hondas are real good cars and 110 is relatively low mileage for one, you should be ok, just top off the blinker fluid and check the muffler gears.

timing belt and water pump would be my only concerns, but if you have taken care of the car I would have no worries, honda ftw

bring a quart of oil, ALL internal combustion engines burn some oil

extra water in case you get low on coolant

PROPER TIRE PRESSURE - the more tire inflation = better gas milage

a map!!!

and a 5 gallon gas can you never know when you might not find a station

Alternator might gooooooo on the trip..

Go grab a battery from wal-mart and if you end up not needing it just return it when you get to your destination...

Oh yah forgot, i got jumper cables and a battery starter. I dont think i've ever had the timing belt or water pump done.

Most Honda's have to have the timing belt replaced at 90K miles. Major...major engine damage if the belt goes out. And replace the water pump while the mechanic is there. I had a friend that here timing belt go out. Bent valves... ruined the pistons.... a few $k in damage. My belt replacement was about $300, but it has to be done!

Good advice on Timing belts. One note: It is easier on a car to take a 2000k cross country drive than all the starting, stopping, cornering,braking, shifting etc of normal city driving.

^^^ Nah not taking any chances and nobody will gaurantee a contract with me saying they have to pay my cost to get it shipped by someone else if they dont show. Fucking scam artists.

Thats like 1/8 of what my damn car is worth. You would really think the idiots who make these cars would make them %100 reliable forever since your dishing out so much $$ for them new. I mean come on, how hard would it be to put in a stronger timing belt by the factory so it never needs replacing, or at least they should replace your first one free. Damn bloodsucker.

I was thinkin about selling it but I paid 13k for it with 40k miles about 4year ago which was a steal. Im luck to get 8 for it now and i've maintained it so well i figure after the belt/pump I should get another 100k outta this thing and have no car payments.

Man that car will get you your moneys worth if you keep it for sure, do the work, $950 for that is well worth it because it should go to 300 k miles easy, but you gotta maintain em, trust me my family has had 4 of these cars and every one went 300k
