O/T Movies of 2012

just got home from watching Django and WOW it did not disappoint at all another great movie put together by Tarantino

I'm a big movie guy and there were lots of good movies out this year, I'm curious on what you guys recommend?

Anyone lucky enough to see Zero Dark Thirty yet? Its not playing anywhere in my city which is total BS. Its on "limited" release.

How about Django Unchained? Me and my woman are going to this one next. I love Tarantino and I heard he really outdid himself with this.

The Hobbit? Me and the family were going to see this on Christmas day but missed it cuz there wasnt a showing early enough to not interfere with all the eating arrangements. I'm not sure if its worth seeing in theaters or waiting for bluray?

Off the top of my head, these are probably my top 3 of 2012 in no order

End of Watch
Looper
7 Psychopaths

Worth mentioning

Argo- great movie, I love Affleck movies but I wasnt blown away
Skyfall- most overrated movie of the year, I was totally let down
Dark Knight

What did you guys enjoy this year?

Skyfall overrated??!!!!???!!!! It was THE best 007 movie EVER. My eyes are bleeding right now by that comment. It was the best movie of 2012 along with Looper. End of Watch was also excellent. Dark Knight Returns was good but not as good as the last one.

I saw so many movies this year so I will forget a lot but Ted was awesome. So was Safe House. Man on a Ledge was pretty good (mentioned bc someone else did)

And was 7 Psychopaths really that good? Looked ok based on the previews.

Still need to see Django

I had no desire to see Lawless based on the previews. Surprised to hear you guys thought it was so good.

and LOL at whoever said Total Recall was good. That was the 2nd worst movie I saw all year after Killing Them Softly. I mean TR was pure garbage. Absolutely horrid movie. The premise was good, but they screwed it up so badly. Words can't describe the disaster I sat through that evening in the theater.

Lincoln, I also hated

Overall, Looper was #1. I expected an ok movie and got a classic.

I had massive expectations for Skyfall which I think is why I was so let down. I was expecting movie of the year but it'd be lucky to make top 10 imo. I dont think it touched Casino Royale. I thought Casino Royale had a much darker, grittier feel which I why I liked it so much. It was good sure, but not nearly as good as everyone made it out to be.

Dark Knight Rises was good but definitely not better than the previous, thats for sure.

7 Psychopaths was totally unexpected for me. I went in not expecting anything and I couldnt believe how much I laughed. I havent laughed that much in a movie in a long time. Depends on the type of humor you have if you will enjoy this one or not.

And I completely agree with you on TR. Talk about a total fuck up of a movie. I dont understand where these directors, writers, etc get this shit from. Its as if they went in and said "lets tease the audience for the first half hour with decency and then turn everything into complete shit!"

Oh and to whoever mentioned Moonrise Kingdom, I really enjoyed it as well. I can see a lot of people not liking it though. Its on a completely different level than most.

A few others I enjoyed

Avengers - Amazing job on putting all of these characters together and actually making it work without being completely cheesy
Hunger Games
Magic Mike - not afraid to admit that I enjoyed this movie a lot

And as for 2013, I personally can't wait to see the new Superman and Star Trek- Into Darkness.

I'm willing to bet Star Trek is one of the best movies of 2013. HUGE expectations from me on this one. Trailers look amazing.

haha I also liked Magic Mike. Hunger Games was good and so was Avengers

Django was very, very well done. Saw it last night. A few people actually walked out though, there were some graphic, disturbing parts.

One of my favorites was the Wes Anderson film Moonrise Kingdom. Excellent.

Moonrise Kingdom a Wes Anderson film cowritten with Roman Coppola (they have worked together before)
Wes typically writes stories of his own childhood in a dysfunctional family.
To paraphrase David Byrne, that stories are just a trick to get an audience to pay attention to something longer than they ordinarily would.
And this one did just that.

Still have to see Django. I can't really think of all of the films I saw this past year, but two of my favorites were: Beasts of the southern wild, and Safety not guaranteed.

So I saw Django last night and it surely didnt disappoint one bit. Absolutely amazing movie! The acting was brilliant by all of the characters. The story line was incredible.

Tarantino at his all time best, theres no doubt about it.

I mean just think how hard it would be to pull a movie like this off. You're talking about some of the most brutal aspects of slavery in the South before the civil war and Tarantino somehow manages to make you laugh at this shit in his twisted ways.

The KKK scene was by far some of the funniest shit I've ever seen.

Django was great! Awesome acting by everyone but especially Christopher Walz...... That guy is good!

Agreed, even all the black people in the theater were dying laughing along with me. Not gonna lie, at first I was a bit uncomfortable but as soon as they started cracking I knew it was all good.

I'm a huge movie guy too...I try to keep up to date with what's being nominated for awards and what has won at film festivals....

Lincoln, Flight, Moonrise Kingdom, End of Watch, My Sister's Sister, Beats of the Southern Wild, Django, The Master

all of those were badass

If you haven't heard or seen Beasts of the Southern Wild...that would be my main recommendation...amazing movie.

Dark Knight and Django. Just saw Django the other day was absolutely amazing!

New james bond movie was TERRIBLE!

My top 5

1. Dark Knight Rises
2. Amazing Spiderman
3. Dredd
4. Skyfall
5. Avengers

Also just saw Django last night. By far the best film I've seen this year. Awesome performances from Waltz, Foxx, and Dicaprio. Excited for the next film Tarantino will be making (a substory connected to inglorious bastards) about a group of black troops is screwed over by the american military and seek out revenge.

This is not from 2102 but just wanted to add I saw Warhorse (Steven Spielberg) the other night for the first time. It was an amazing film... fully recommended to anyone who is yet to see.

Just saw hobbit.. Very slow i some parts and kinda choppy.. Never knowing how they got where ect.. The orcs and trolls were computer generated and not the most real looking.. Just felt rushed together to the second one coming up..

Django.. Saw it also.. Very entertaining..

7 psychopaths... Loved the humor..

If you guys haven't seen UNDEFEATED, definitely check that out.

It won the Academy Award for best documentary last year....realllly fuckin good.

If you are at all in to 30 for 30's on ESPN, it's just like one of those....documentary of a Memphis high school football team that has been notoriously terrible for the past 15 years.

Few movies give me goosebumps and this one did.
