In the restaurant i work at theres is Clap Board Siding. The bottom 6 or 7 boards all along one wall are damaged. Nicks and dings. There is an Ipswich Pine stain on them and a polyurethane. Now, theyre all rough cut so theres alot of texture in the wood. Would a quick sand, just enough to scuff the poly be enough to re stain?would 220 grit sand paper be ok? i also have this product called goof off that will take the laquer off. would that be better to use?

Just a personal opinion. Unless your talking 7 coarses that run an extended distance, it might be more efficient to take the 7 coarses out and just replace. It's not costly and it would probably take a lot of headache out of trying to get the old wood to accept new stain given the poly. Even if you do, you still have physically damaged clapboard.

Hard for me to say without standing in front of it. Like I said though, sometimes it's easier to just replace it then bust your balls in, "time" to make something old work.

Good luck.
