Photo taken by my son the other day. I don't think she's an albino but maybe a color mutation of some kind. Do any of you hunters or nature guys know what could cause a white tailed deer to be almost all white?

It's a piebald deer. Albinos lack all pigment so they even have pink eyes and noses with no brown fur at all

There's rumors of an albino doe in my area, but I've never seen it.

Haven't much for deer at all this season, actually :banghead:

Still nice to get out and take my gun for a walk though LOL

yea that's a Piebald doe , it's just a genetic defect that causes the pigment issue , most of the time (the three I've seen) the skin is actualy colored under the hair , this is the same thing that causes Pinto horses but with horses the results can be somewhat controled through selective breeding.

she looks realy good , often they will have a slightly differant bone structure like short nose and legs , excessively long tail or ears and sometimes spine issues.

whe shot one about 9 years ago off a piece of property that was being managed for trophy deer , the land owner was freaking out that his herd might be polluted with a bad gene so we went out and assassinated the little guy , this little buck had a seriouse over bite and very long tail , he was small and very skinny most likey due to not being able to eat properly

Theres a military base here locally that has these white deer all over around it, pure white not spotted. I've heard previously it was due to radiation or something along those lines...

I've been hunting montana and the dakotas my entire life, seen pics and a few that freinds had shot, but never seen one alive myself. After cleaning the deer, nothing other than the skin/hair pigments appeared different, just a white tail with some really odd coloring.........

Great pic. My dad shot a piebald antelope last year. They took video of it the day before. It was neet to see it interact with the other antelope. Sure stuck out. Glad to see you get this pic, they are very rare. Well done!

Thanks Magnus but I can't take credit for the pic. My 14 year old son took my camera, got out of the car and got to within 15 feet of her when he snapped the pic! Also want to thank everyone for the responses. Now I know what a piebald is!

At Argonne lab just outside of Chicago there are a abundance of white deer.

Edit: accidently put fermi lab

A couple of my buddies sent me pics of albino does up in the Boulder Juction WI area a couple of weeks ago. Here is a pic of one that I kept.
