i have a 2004 MAZDA RX-8 WHICH WAS THE 2004 CAR AND DRIVER CAR OF THE YEAR. IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP 12X. IT HAS A NEW ENGINE, NEW EXHAUST, NEW STEREO WHICH STILL DOESNT WORK, VARIOUS PIECES OF GARBAGE PLASTIC FOR THE INTERIOR ALL REPLACED, PLUS A FEW OTHERS I HAVE FORGOTTEN. IT IS NOW BACK IN THE SHOP FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS...........THAT GUESS WHAT THEY DONT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG OR CAUSING IT. THIS CAR WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND HAS 42,000 MILES ON IT AND THE COMPANY WILL NOT DO A FUCKING THING ABOUT IT. THE ROADSIDE WARRANTY RUNS OUT IN 2 MONTHS AND NOBODY WILL TAKE THIS FUCKING CAR AND I CANNOT SELL THIS CAR AS I WOULD NEVER FUCK SOMEONE OVER LIKE THAT.

MAZDA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THE VEHICLES PERIOD AND COULD GIVE 2 SHITS ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THERE VEHICLES.

THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY WIFE ON HER WAY HOME FROM WORK ALMOST CAUSING A VERY BAD ACCIDENT.

Same goes for Audi. Had a recall on there automatic transmissions to where
the front sealed unit had a fluid that would dry up and damage the
gears, thats exactly what happened to mine. went to the dealer he in turn
passed me off to another, and another,and another finally was told
tough shit the car had too many miles on it and hung the phone up
FUCK AUDI.

its normal to have an engine replaced after 20,000 miles? its normal to have an exhaust system replaced at 12,000 miles? its normal for the electical system to basically shut the car down while its being driven? its normal for the mazda dealership to call and say hey we cant give you your car back yet cause hey we dont know whats wrong with it (not once but 3 different times)....................bullshit. with all due respect this has nothing to do with maintenance and care.

Edge, unfortunately we are living in a society that does not stand behind what they say or do. Take my advice, The squeaky wheel gets results. I constantly fight bad service with legal means until I get results. Sometimes you have to go to top.

I must assume this was just a poor choice of words. Maintenance and care? You build rotary engines and find this to be normal AND related to maintenance and care. You need to please explain what he describes as being normal.

I do agree, however, with your recommendation of joining the rx8 club. I belong to two Mercedes clubs and they have saved me thousands of dollars.

Edge, check the lemon law of your state, as they vary, this may qualify with a traceable history of repeated problems.

You are forgetting something. You have a rotary engine, a engine that's very fragile. I know the renesis had some initial problems but they were supposed have been figured out. Be glad you got the new engine. The exhaust, remember it's a rotary and rotaries produce ridiculous heat but Mazda should take care of your exhaust since it was under warranty.

The electrical system, no that's not normal. This is why I suggested getting on the RX8 forum and asking around. Most likely, other people are having the same problem as you. I can tell you one thing, Mazda is the last place I take my rotaries if they need fixed. They usually do more harm than good.

Rotaries are a different breed, and I wouldn't suggest anyone get one unless they're ready for the responsibilty.

The electrical problems, not normal. Everything else, very normal for a rotary.

With the engine breaking, it's very normal for a rotary and much expected from a generation 1 renesis. I bought a 3rd generation RX7 new back in 1995, and had 4 engines warrantied. Rotaries need alot more care than a pushrod engine. Fuel Filters, Plugs, Wires etc. etc. These need to be changed every 10K, and can easily cause an engine failure. A simple mistake of filling up with 87 octane gas can also cause a lean out and break the engine. Pushrods do not have this problem and are much more forgiving.

They can be made reliable, with the right maintenance.

If their is a outstanding issue and you have had it repaired 3 times and it still persists you are in qualification for the ' lemon law ' ! Any manufacturer...Posrche...BMW..etc can have a lemon squeak by in its production. That is why they have warranties etc.. Some obviously have more problems than others... in your situation you have to be balls to the wall and not settle for anything else than a replacement! if you bought the car new..... you have a worthy arguement. Just be persistent and do not give up. the last thing they want to do is to replace your vehicle! best of luck!!

Mazda's first round of engine recalls offered new engines or buy backs of their RX8's. Not sure what this has to do with what you're saying but I just thought I would throw it out there

a lot of my buds had the old FD and they would race em and stuff and poor sob's, sometimes you'd see the apex seals go out the exhaust doh!
