Does anyone suffer from this? Its been in my family a long time, and my brother used to have it really bad. He still gets it to this day. Ive never had a problem until maybe the last year, and i seem to get it a little on the sides of my nose. Does anyone know of anything other then hydrocortisone that is effect at managing it that is also OTC?

I know the trick is to keep well moisturized and avoid what flares it up, but i still get it even with following these guidelines. Any tips?

I get that sometimes too. Avoid soap with the added crap. Cetaphil makes great skin products sans the unnecessary additives and irritants. Stress makes it worse too. The tannins in red wine can trigger it. My dermatologist told me that intelligent, hi-wired types are prone for eczema (I said bingo :D ) the best stuff I have used by far was a script he gave me. Its a cream with gentemicin and hydrocortisone in it. Works great.

Bud I get it whenever I haven't had enough sun exposure. Usually sides of nose, eyebrows, forehead. Consequently I took vit D the first half of last winter and had no improvement.

Funnily enough I think it was Dante who said try apply glycerine and lemon juice. I didn't have lemon juice in the house at the time but the glycerine did the job amazingly well. Apply it once to the affected area and can leave it for around a fortnight before I need to apply it again.

My bf has it and sun is a good way for him to keep it at bay.

it is very hard to control. i would stay away everything you are allergic to at all costs. use the steroid creams otherwise it can get pretty debilitating. i have has some pretty severe flar ups so far nothing has helped other than the steroid creams.

i would be careful though the creams potency shoots ups pretty quickly. some of the creams have 1000x the potency of hydrocortisone.

I had contact dermititis for 20 years and then mysteriously it mostly went away.

Figuring out what you are allergic to can be really really hard as it can be a combination of factors.

I am definitely allergic to nickel oxide and my eczema used to flare up when I handled just about anything metal but now only my wedding ring gives me a rash.

I'm pretty sure alcohol makes everything worse for me. Now that I'm old and married I rarely drink and it seemed like I got flare ups regularily after a night of drinking.

A pan of hot water with a cap full of olive oil and 5 minutes of moisturizing gives a fair bit of relief. It's no cure but the darn hydrocortisone cream isn't good for you.

At the end of the day it's kind of like tendonitus. You need to bite the bullet and solve the problem rather than just treating the symptoms. Go for a patch test and see if you can identify the cause.
