we have millions of teachers in the US. I view them as two things indefinitely, Teachers and humans. I know humans can be confused, and cruel. I think this guy is just probably another example of a miserable man on a power trip. Their are little standards though on this field, which is why so much drama surfaces.

I used to teach high school chem/bio and did some middle school science too. I would never dream of doing something like this to a student. Really poor judgement. I find it hard to believe he has been teaching for 12 yrs and acting like that. Some of the parents liked his teaching methods. There is probably more to the story than is being told, but he really put him self out there when he wrote that on her test.
I cannot understand any possible benefit to the student for writing such a thing on their paper. There were some kids I had that I genuinely disliked, but I would never do anything to hurt their self esteem. Kids at that age are too fragile. It would be bad enough if one of her peers wrote that, but it was an adult and an authority figure at that!

When I was 5 I joined little league baseball. My dad was a slug so he had never even played catch with me let alone show me how to hold a bat-he didn't know himself. Anyway it didn't take long for me to figure out I was fat and I sucked so all the kids were mean to me. The coach encouraged the kids to fuck with me so I'd quit. One kid punched me in the nose for no reason-the coach didn't do shit. Next thing ya know it's my turn to practice hitting. The coach threw the ball and hit me in the head. He said it was an accident. Yeah right. I quit after that.

My next shitty experience was with a PE teacher in after school sports when I was 10yrs old. We were playing basketball. Again I was fat and not very athletic. I was always picked last for teams. The coach told me I'd never be a good basketball player and I need to quit coming. Then we pick teams-shirts and skins. I was a skin. I took my shirt off-the coach looked at me in disgust and told me to put my shirt back on because I was too fat -in front of everyone.

Looking back both of these asshole adults wrote on the script of who I would grow up to be. I don't have kids, but if I did and someone messed with my kid the way those adults messed with me I'd gladly accept whatever assault charges I got for their thoughtless bullshit.

It could be that this is just that teacher's way of motivating his students. I think he could find a more appropriate way of doing it though. Way to boost the kid's self-esteem!!!

No wonder more and more people are turning to homeschooling!

This touches a nerve with me. That guy is a POS and should be fired immediately. He's an assole and a liability.

When I heard this, I thought he was riding some teenager over being goth or a stoner, some private joke that just looks bad on paper (which would still be unacceptable) but it's a LITTLE GIRL, in the 6th grade! Dude needs a slap.

I went to a private school as a child, where we were routinely harassed. I had my hair pulled by teachers, was grabbed, pushed etc. and I was a QUIET, SKINNY KID!

Long story short, My brothers and I, all in different years, were kicked out. Them for fighting with teachers (dont ask questions in religion class x2), I for fighting with a kid, the headmasters nephew in 6th grade. Prick.

When they went to punish me by a beating (me only) for the fight that I DIDN'T START, after months of bullying, I told the headmaster that if he hit me, it'd be the last thing he did, and I meant it. Enough was enough.

They called my parents and that was my last day. HOORAH!

All my friends who graduated from that school, all of them, are or were a mess. One in for life w/out parole, a couple are drug addicts, couple became great athletes or soldiers, but I can tell you they are driven by rage. I got out early and paid proportionally with a BAD temper till I was about 22 and it got me in trouble.

Im much older now and teach at a University. I can't imagine EVER being so low as to pick on any kid. WTF? If he's a problem, he's gotta leave my lecture hall. Simple. I have never had to send one kid out, in 5 years at the same school.

Sorry for the rant. Teachers like this should be flogged publicly.

Thats pretty messed up. Even tho these days I believe children aren't being raised strictly enough. back in the day the principle would give ya a few paddle slaps when naughty. But messing with a childs emotions with negative comments and such can def. have some scarring effect

Every time my daughter brings home her 2nd grade homework there is at least 1 if not 2 or 3 answers on her work that the teacher has marked wrong that are correct and this is out of like 10 problems!!!...there are only 18 kids in the class.....its really horrible.

All of the teachers I had the opportunity to work for were pretty intelligent people and didnt fit the description you have here in your post. The only thing I ran into a few times were some teachers that got lazy, especially later in their career, and they didnt put their heart into it like they did when they were younger. It takes a whole lof of energy and focus to be a successful teacher.

Yeah, the pay really sucks. I had 6 years in teaching and a masters when i left and was only getting payed $38k.

the average salary in the link for Fl teachers was just $46k. Id like to see the average education and years of experience in the state that go with that pay. Thats about average for the country. MOst states I think the average years teaching is about 10-15yrs and a masters degree.

Look at business majors. The bank my wife works with hires kids straight out of college and pays them $55k or more. thats with no experience and just a lousy bachelors degree. Teachers are underpayed.

Look man Not trying to step on your toes, but salaries being higher won't change whether or not a person does a good job or not. Anybody can get a degree nowadays, there need to be stricter screening processes for teachers before we just arbitrarily start paying more money to someone toting a teaching degree.

If the job paid better, it would attract better teachers IMO. In science especially, a lot of the most talented people choose other professions because of the pay. A good number of decent teachers quit early on too when they realize what the business world pays.

Like any profession, you have bad apples. In the book "On Killing", it states that 3% of all males are sociopaths, and they are employed in all professions...

The issue I have with teachers is the whole union/seniority thing. You may have a fantastic new teacher and a terrible older one, but if the economy tanks and cutbacks need to get made, guess who gets cut? Almost every non-union private sector job judges you on your performance. simply apply that standard to teachers. Bad ones go, good ones stay, regardless of "seniority". Only issue is how to judge a good one vs a bad one.
