I turned 50 on the 16th of last month. Now, you’ve all heard me talk about how much I love my wife, how considerate she is, how she’s my best friend, etc…
I was on a work trip in Palm Springs that entire week and was traveling all day Friday (the 16th) to get home. When I got home, nothing seemed out of sorts. We had planned to maybe go to dinner if I didn’t get home too late. I pulled in to the driveway at just before 9:00, so I thought we’d call it a night and go out Saturday.
When I went in through the garage, she met me at the door, and fellas let me tell you, she was WEARING that little black dress!!!
“Okay, we’re going out, I guess!”
Well, she greets me, kisses me, says happy birthday and as I walk in I’m BLINDSIDED by the voices of about 30 of our closest friends “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!”
I didn’t know whether to shit or wind my watch…to call me surprised was an understatement!
I’ve never had a birthday party. Ever. Even as a kid. We didn’t have the money and lived so far out in the country, nobody could have gotten there, anyway!
I didn’t KNOW how much something like that would mean to me until after the fact. But I was overwhelmed that so many people would take their Friday night (and gym people our age do NOT leave the house after 7:00, you know this!) to be there.
Now.
That wasn’t why I made this post.
I made this post to show off the coolest gift that I have EVER been given.
Many of you know I’m a great big nerd… Transformers, G.I. Joe, Marvel, Batman, Masters of the Universe, WWE… I collect so much stuff from those lines. When we built this house it was picking a floor plan with enough bedrooms for me to have a collection room.
For my birthday, my wife reached out to my friends in the toy industry and commissioned a custom action figure of… me!
The head sculpt, paint, soft goods, amd pieces of the body were all made from scratch. She snuck TONS of pics of me, when I was asleep or just not looking, to get every angle of my face and head, and used SO many contest pics to get a body that structurally resembled mine (although a bit more impressive than I am in the flesh!).
I wanted to share the finished product here and just say how blessed I am to have a woman that truly cares enough to really know me.
I wish the same for all of you.
