Olmesartan vs Telmisartan

Is Olmesartan superior to Telmisartan in managing blood pressure while providing the same renal and cardiovascular prophylactic benefits? Or does the effectiveness simply vary from person to person?

Both are really good options. Olmesartan and Telmisartan are in the same class (ARBs), so they both do a great job with blood pressure, kidney protection, and cardiovascular risk.

Olmesartan might have a slight edge in pure BP lowering for some people, while telmisartan has a small benefit metabolically (insulin sensitivity and such), but nothing major for most.

From a kidney and heart protection standpoint, they’re basically equivalent. The bigger factor is just how well your BP is controlled and how you respond to it.

not really about one being “better,” more about what works best for the individual as both are quite good.

Agree with the above posts. Telmisartan 80 mg is equivalent to Olmesartan 40 mg etc. Olmesartan is slightly stronger. I chose telmisartan because of the longer half life and possible ppar activation

Great timing for this thread for me personally. I just started using Olmesartan with my Telmisartan. Reason is economics, I get the Olmesartan for free while I pay for the Telmisartan. Been using Telmisartan at 80mg for years with success. In the last couple of weeks just started using the Olmesartan, Olm @ 40mg (morning), Telm @ 40mg (night) per day.

Because I just started this protocol I have zero feedback at this point. But because of this thread I will be paying closer attention to my BP numbers. Taking BP measurements is the first thing I do upon waking in the morning. At some point I'll reverse the times I take each to see if I notice any change in my numbers.

OP, thanks for posting up this thread, I'm going to follow to see what other people post up about their personal experience with these two BP meds, combined or separate.
