I have always shopped at 2 different grocery chains.. whole foods, and a local supermarket chain called schnucks. (compare to shop n save, dierbergs, fairway, hi vee, etc)

I have been buying my meats at whole foods, and my eggs at the chain store. the chain store sells regular eggs, but recently i switched over to their omega 3 enhanced line.. it is a store specialty brand.. they are like 2.79 a dozen. on the label, it says 660 mg omega 3 per egg

however, at whole foods, the most omega3 per egg i can find is 225, and that is in brown eggs... which are 4.99 a dozen???

What gives?

Is the label at the discount chain lying to me, or did whole foods fail to get the healthiest egg distributor?

Whole Foods is a complete rip-off. Find a local farmers market

IMO those type of eggs taste like shit...

I bet the eggs that you bought that are 660 mg of omega 3's are christophers eggs. The best store bought eggs on the market. No other store bought egg will even get close to christophers @ 660 mg. Its all i buy when i cant buy local farmer eggs.

it is in fact christophers.

at 2.79 a dozen vs. 4.99 for regular brown eggs @ whole foods? i dont get it..

Whole foods does have quite a markup.. Im not familiar with Christophers' brand.. So i really can't comment.. Alot of these companies are giving their chickens flaxseeds or Omega3 supplements to boost their Omega-3 content.. I still will take eggs from a pasture dwelling chicken eating bugs and grasses outside than a chicken eating flaxseed in a dark chicken house all day..

If you read about the christophers eggs their diet is as close to natural as possible and they are not cage bound birds.

Not sure if you have a vitamin cottage where you are at but their prices are amazing!! Omega 3 eggs at 300mg are about 2.29 a dozen..

Is there any truth to the insinuation that cooking omega3 eggs the old-fashioned way (stove top, med-high heat) destroys the very mono fats you're paying higher $ to ingest? I'm sure I read this somewhere...

I don't buy omega3 eggs (flax is usually what is fed the chickens anyway, and I'd prefer fish oil) but I have gone the free range route for some time.

Yes mountaindog has preached this from the day he first introduced free range eggs to us. I usually cook them on a low heat and when the whites are almost done i take them off the burner and stir in the yolks (I crack all of them and leave them whole to start off with). This way the yolks dont get much direct heat and are more gummy than regular scrambled eggs.
