I've read before that the ratio of omega 3 to 6 is more important for insulin sensitivity and health than the total amount of omega 3 you consume. So for example if someone is getting a good amount of fish oil, but they have peanut butter in their diet, it could cancel the benefits because peanut butter is very high in Omega 6. Thoughts? Is it total amount of omega 3 that benefit us or is the ratio of 3/6 what matters?

I am not sure your specific question, but did read the ratio affects inflammation response. I believe rx muscle has a video or two on this somewhere.

I am with Lyle McDonald and others on this and go for total EPA.

Basically, does eating foods high in Omega 6 negate the benefits we get from taking epa/DHA. So if I'm taking in x amount of EPA/DHA, but add a scoop of Natty PB to my diet to increase surplus, do I need to up the EPA/DHA now?

It depends on how much EPA you're getting. Get a lot and omega 6 isn't much of a problem. Unless your on super high carbs so you never really use the fat for fuel.

I would guess a certain threshold for omega 3's as a minimum would be needed to have an effect. Then as 6's go up past a certain ratio negative effect could happen. Especially as the ratio got more and more skewed.
