Good morning, folks—listen, I’ve got this idea: I want to prepare a podcast with Dominik Mutascio, Chris Tuttle, Austin Stout, and Evan Centopani on the topic “Ultimate Guide to Bodybuilding Gut Health.” As we all know, there’s a ton of material out there on gut health in bodybuilding—everyone’s talking about everything and nothing. I want this to be a truly practical podcast with precise info on what’s REALLY important: how diet, lifestyle, supplementation, and meds should look; what worsens gut health; factors overlooked during bulking or contest prep, etc.
I need your help—if you have ideas for specific topics, questions, or any other suggestions for this podcast, I’d be super grateful. I’d also love a clear chronology to structure it. I really don’t want this to be another podcast about “nothing”—I want everyone to walk away with PRACTICAL, REAL info they can use. Thanks a ton for the help; I’m hoping this turns into an awesome episode because lining up one recording time for all these guys is pure hell on earth xD.

This is important and I'm glad you're doing it. I would be curious about some opinions on the viability of food sensitivity tests, if that falls within their scope.

One camp says these IgG scores really are bullshit. On the other hand, I had one done and I anecdotally feel better and sharper after eliminating some foods that trigger a higher IgG score for me.

If you were able to add one more guest Peter Hill (HillyDoc) uk coach would
Be a great addition he used to work in the healthcare system doing exactly this and is somewhat the go to UK based guy for all digestive related issues

“How do I know if I have a healthy or unhealthy gut?” I feel 99% are blindly chasing gut health by doing “the right things” but truly have no idea where they are actually at.

I think a basic topic of someone explaining how PED’s effect the gut in terms of permeability, stomach acid etc would be a foundational topic all could benefit from. I could spend an hour talking through this on a podcast.

Most people wait until after the fact and damage to “fix their gut” as they have no idea what even caused it in the first place.

THIS 100%.
MOST of the BBing population has an obsession about optimizing stuff that might not need optimizing.
Most have NO idea if they are a good gut, a bad gut, a regular gut.

Well you could try getting some experts from outside of the bodybuilding scene (medical/ research field) on as well.
Some German podcasters do this from time to time and it can be very valuable — like bringing on a good cardiologist to discuss some basic stuff about heart health.

EDIT: sorry I misread that, I thought you meant a whole podcast series but it seems like you are talking about a single episode.

Anything related to Ulcerative colitis. Digestion, absorption, bulking… anythig related to bodybuilding with UC

I know Chris only lets his clients eat certain veggies at certain times. What veggies and what times and can they be raw because I know he talks about cooking all of them. Why? I like to snack on raw celery, radishes, carrots and cucumbers between meals for the fullness and crunch. Is that ok?

It`s how the score is interpreted. It`s possible to have 2-3 sensitivities or allergies but when your report lights up like a Christmas tree (10+) you have leaky gut. Essentially large particles that should not be passing the intestinal barrier, do get thru and cause inflammation.

People always think they eat good but it`s like 5 different foods with no vegetables. A narrow diet creates a narrow gut biome, which is often detrimental.

Stress is another huge overlooked factor in gut health and heart disease. If you are always in a state of fight or flight digestion suffers. Problem is the most stressed people always say they are fine, I`m tough, they have been running "stressed software" for so long they can`t tell the difference any more.

The best testing for gut health I have found to be stool sample testing because it tells you exactly what the biome is.

What is the gut?
What is 'bad' gut health? How do I know if I have that, or just a food sensitivity?
Why low FODMAP is just a temporary solution?
Why do today's guys with more diverse diets have more gut issues than the previous generations of just meat+rice?
Common foods/supplements that cause bad gut health?
Common bodybuilding things that can negatively influence the gut? (inflammation, poor recovery, force-feeding, excess protein, high glycemic foods, AAS orals)
Histamine, stomach acid, liver health and their effect on gut health.
Other body systems affected by the gut (gut-brain axis, thyroid-gut, etc.)
Difference between prebiotics and probiotics.
How fermented foods affect the gut. Why Chris Tuttle loves kombucha more than sauerkraut or kimchi, and the studies demonstrating it can quickly 'fix' dysbiosis.
Why things that can fix the gut can also cause rapid damage (glutamine).
Who needs to do a GI-map (stool test)?

I think this is a wonderful idea. Any one of these gentlemen can spend several hours purposefully discussing the gut. If you and they had the time and interest, perhaps a series featuring the gut where each episode focused on a different segment (fermented foods, oral AAS and tren, FODMAP and artificial sweeteners, soluble and insoluble fiber vs whole foods for fiber, etc.).

So I paid a little extra through Function to get it done. They don't test a very broad range of foods, but I had 11 foods come back. Not terribly high IgG scores, but cacao was my highest at 7.9, follow by wheat and yeast at 7. The others were 5 and lower.

Interestingly, I had always thrown a heaping tablespoon of raw cacao powder in my morning shakes for the longest time. It always seemed strange that I felt a bit foggy through the first half of the day. I eliminated that, and it seems that brain fog went away. This is not PROOF by any means, but it's enough to steer me away from these foods, for the most part.

I started on glutamine immediately after that, thinking of the leaky gut thing. I almost never have a day where I eat less than 40g of fiber from various sources.

Yeah, I will definitely do that at some point, but the only thing stopping me right now is that I haven’t seen a good, corresponding opinion or practical answers from those who have never done bodybuilding themselves or worked with bodybuilders in the past. Most approaches that docs and medical field people provide are highly dictated by their work ethic and laws—even if they know, they can’t give us real, honest opinions and knowledge without risking their careers. That’s why I’m holding off on this idea. I would love to have a place that’s very objective and clear of those “mixed world” actions. For example, I would love to invite someone like Hunter Williams and other longevity guys—but then again, I need to HIGHLY INSURE people that this topic is not related to achieving the best results in bodybuilding, but optimizing for those who are just recreational gym-goers and want a little push in life/work/health. I believe the whole industry is missing this one piece: the separation of athletes vs. lifestyle worlds. And they are two separate things that don’t coexist very well.

The idea is great, but we need to remember how lining up 4-5 people living in different time zones sometimes looks. Even a single podcast can take days or weeks (for some guests, months) to schedule. So even though it’s a great idea, it has to be what’s possible and practical.
This is why I don’t want a list of “Is an apple a great source of vitamin C?” questions—but ones that are freakishly hard to find answers for. Most listed questions are just 1-minute ChatGPT searches. I want to ask things that even they might not be sure about. For example, I want to create an episode with Kurt Heaven, Justin Harris, Dr. Scott Stevenson (and who else would you suggest to add—someone with a VERY STRONG opinion on the topic?) on HGH. Even though there are millions of HGH podcasts and info out there, there’s little real information—it’s just speculation, and everyone claims they’re right. Let’s line up some opposite camps on the topic and figure out once and for all what’s really important, what we truly know, what’s just assumption, real-world scenarios, and first-hand cases, etc.
I’m doing this FOR MONEY, guys. I didn’t spend the last 10 years on YouTube because it’s my hobby—I’m a coach myself. YouTube brings me clients, people use my codes to support me for what I provide—and I want to PROVIDE nothing but the best. I don’t want another bodybuilding podcast that’s just background noise while washing dishes. I want to give everyone REAL, PRACTICAL, and MOST IMPORTANTLY USEFUL information. Then I’d be at peace asking for support in return. I was taught not to earn just by taking, and that’s what I’m hoping to do with this podcast.

looks like i subbed to your channel just in time

that podcast that Nyle did with Justin Harris - where Justin described a case where an older gal somehow had like 30lbs of undigested waste in her body when she died... kinda sat with me

if there is anything you can ask regarding how we can determine if we are literally "full of shit" - and how to clear that out - that would be awesome

lol

I already talked about this. That’s why I had so much buildup in my body - inflammation, waste, probably a lot of undigested food, etc.

Three years ago, before my liver and kidney issues, I weighed around 12–15 kg more than now, even though I didn’t really have more muscle just a bigger waist.
Losing 15 cm from the waist while the rest of my measurements stayed almost the same says everything.

Most bodybuilders, because of this lifestyle, carry a lot of junk and inflammation in their body.

Totally agree, som pointers to where am i and where do i need to be, just so one could have an idea of wich direction you are going and how to step back and improve. Again i thinks it truly hard to "diagnose" from afar because there will be overlapsing symptoms like diaherra, hard stomach, has etc so how to differentiate between the different things.

This is a great idea, for so many topics, so we can get someones different perspective on things.

Stu phillips, luc van loon, don layman when it comes to dietary protein/amino acids for example.

Andre koutnik and Ben bikman for insulin/insulin resistance.

eric trexler and herman pontzer when it comes to metabolic adaption, constrained energy model etc.
