For the last 5 years it’s become really noticeable and starting to get in the way of my training because it’s getting worse.
Ok so let’s say I grab the lat pull down bar and sit down and I have both arms stretched out above my head because I haven’t pulled down the first rep yet. Let’s say I completely let my lats stretch out above my head, fully relaxed stretch. The bar will be slanted downward and to the right because my left hand ends up sitting about an inch above my right hand.
Like put your hands straight above your head like your reaching for the roof. Left hand ends up being higher than the right. It looks like it starts from the shoulder area. Honestly I can’t really tell what muscle group is so tight that it’s giving me this imbalance. Idk if it’s the pecs, lats, or something in the shoulder.
When I do bench press, when I try to have the most symmetrical form that I can manage. At least it “feels” symmetrical to me, but if you were to stand behind me you’d see such a serious angle. Same with barbell shoulder press and most lat exercises. Both arms just are even anymore.
Now I do wait tables for a living and have done this for 15 years. I’m constantly carrying pretty heavy trays with my right hand and that right shoulder obviously sinks down a little when you carry a tray. Not carrying a drink tray underhanded but carrying a large tray with a bunch of ceramic dinner plates in a shoulder press position.
I think maybe from so many years of this it’s caused this imbalance. Idk for sure if it’s from that but it sounds right.
I don’t even know what you would call this. I don’t know what muscle groups are actually giving me the problem. Does anyone else have any experience with a severe imbalance like this and how do you correct it.
