You and I seem to react the same way. I've been on HRT for over eight years now myself. My PCP had taken over giving me my prescription after my insurance changed and I couldn't see my specialist anymore. A couple of my last blood test with him showed my levels were around 1700, which of course freaked him out. I've been on 200mg/week lately, but had been on 300mg/week before that when my total levels tested at 2200. I feel normal at the 200mg/week dosage--good sex drive and build muscle relatively well. Well, my PCP decides he wants me to go to another specialist and finds one that takes my insurance. This new doc cuts me back to 200mg every 2 weeks. I get to the end of two weeks, and I feel tired, no drive to do anything, no sex drive. I have my level checked with my PCP, and it came back 934. The specialist tells me that is to be expected after being up so high all the time and then you come down. I'm thinking, "Normal guys go around having no drive, etc. like this?" If this doesn't change, I will insist he put me back on my old dosage.
There was a thread about measuring free testosterone levels being 10x more accurate than total levels. Supposedly, you can test out of the range and still have a low free test level in which case you actually need more. My results didn't seem to list the free test levels so I'm going to ask about that. These docs do freak out about prescribing testosterone at all. I have yet to find one that doesn't.
