Anyone here know a lot about arm wrestling? There's a new show coming out on one of the channels that follows a few guys in the sport. I remember a few years back the guy who was the best in the world was not big at all. What muscles are the main ones involved in being good at arm wrestling? I'm guessing tendon and ligament strength would play a huge role as well.

One of the best ways I can think of to injure your shoulder. Although I'm sure guys that train specifically for this and are taught the right technique have a much less chance of getting hurt.

Victor Martinez got really fucked up last year arm wrestling some dude in Mexico. If you are a big guy chances are people will always ask you to do shit like that. Say NO.

I never competed but there is a girl maybe 19 at my gym who won a regional and went to the nationals and was beat. She does a lot of rotar cuff work .
She weighs 120 and beat a local bad ass man who is maybe 230 and they arm wrestled in front of 20 or so people,,,,,,,,,,,that would be hard to swallow if you ask me:banghead:

Last time i arm wrestled my elbow was messed up for 6 months. If you want to get hurt then arm wrestle lol. It also proves nothing at all

A buddy of mine used to compete in arm wrestling until he messed up his elbow. Anyway there is a good trick to it, you don’t need to depend on arm strength. You lock your shoulder with your arm and wrist as a single unit and just pivot on your elbow leaning in and using your body weight.

You use your strength to keep everything tight and locked up, and lean in using your weight to drop your opponents wrist.

I agree she told me power/speed and form is the most important.

Yes speed! From what I've seen the first one to break that mid-line is most always the winner. I've never seen anyone come back after losing the mid-line.

Edit: Except in the movies..

I won two competitions that I entered long ass time ago and hurt myself each time, minor rotator and pec tears. If you wanted to get into it for real I would really go though and bullet proof yourself with stabilizer and tendon ligament strength, flexibility.

Total bullshit. The key is turning your hat backwards pre-match.

When I go to bars I get asked to armwrestle a lot.

Ha! Nothing can beat the backwards hat technique and don’t forget the ugly faces technique either.

Anyway, I found this clip on YouTube. Notice how they have very little arm movement and it’s all a body roll pivoting on the elbow. I’ve beat guys bigger and stronger than me using this technique alone and I don’t know the first thing about arm wrestling.

Find a movie called "Pulling John". I know I know, sounds like a gay porn, but it's a movie about John Brzenk who was an arm wrestling champ. He's not a big guy by any means, but he talks quite a bit about different arm and wrist techniques that helped him win. It's pretty interesting.

Did you see the part where the Russian is bench pressing using the leg press? What's the point of that stupid shit

I don't remember that part. I haven't seen the movie in ages. I just bought a copy off amazon though. I've often thought about benching in the leg press. If the Russians do it, it's gotta be good. I'll one up them and do my neck exercises in the leg curl machine lol

My dad begged me to arm wrestle him til the day he died, but I was nevr stupid enough to do it. I knew the outcome would be me getting hurt.

Yes it seems when some get some liquid courage and they don't want to fight they want to arm wrestle??
It is funny that a guy who can't walk straight want's to do this:rolleyes:
