There are a few ways I find out: Dish sends emails that I have allowed when I logged into the website. Dish also posts previews to the dvr in the middle of the night that are up to 10 minutes. The preview channel 103 shows what is on preview each month.

hbo and max are both currently free on centurylink. they sent me a message to my dvr box. Didnt work at first, had to reset boxes and the channels came in.
