OT: Military Personnel and Steroids

I discovered a concern among the Veterans Administation (VA) in which they reported MANY young men were "injecting steroids before missions" in Afghanistan (not Iraq). They are recommending further investigation suggesting possible co-morbidity (development of substance abuse problems and other mental health issues). Thoughts?

I know several military guys that are on while they are over seas and all the contractors I know are on almost year round.

As long as it monotored and they don't do stupid shit with it then I don't see why it not asked as an option , why not take somthing that will help keep your ass alive and from wasteing away do to lake of quality food all the time.

they are working is crappy conditions and have the threat of death while on duty, they want to enhance their performance for God and country, why not?!

Bro I served in the Marine Corps from 98-02, was in afgan for 11 month right after sept 11th I saw the combat action since the start of all this shit... Yes i juiced all throughout my service.... never had a problem... There is only a problem when there is a weak mind! just like in all cases! U gotta be a man, if your a pussy before using and think that is going to make u a man.... good luck....thats when we have these mental cases....

Was in the Corps from 02-06, did OIF 1, 2, and 3. Never knew anyone who used gear while in iraq. All the sand storms and shit in the air, i'd be afraid to inject anything.

Back in conus on the other hand, i knew quite a few bro's who used.

The alcohol is a bigger problem of mortality there. I've seen some stupid shit from fairly normal people when drinking, specially when home life is being turned upside down.

Ya, it totally makes sense to tell the soldiers to not increase their strength and decrease recovery time, when they are subjected to extreme conditions and heavy loads of equipment..... If you believe it needs to be regulated and looked into, you are a power hungry and oppressive person, point blank.

VA frequently assists young vets with ptsd problems. However, I have never seen a test screen administered aside from cancer patients. A lot of good people there genuinely try to help, especially the young vets coming back.

Well I dont know where they are getting their info. But we do not get to or inject before missions. I have been on over 60missions to date have a couple of months left.

They discourage any type of use of any controlled substance and we have no privacy big tent with like 70 people in it. Health and welfare inspections for contraband. There are people using but many more using pro hormones and OTC the quality of OTC is much better now.

The food is available but the Heat and all the gear no choice but to lose weight. Alot of people working out that normally do not and dont once we return so the little gyms we have are always packed. Take care everyone MM

These reports were (supposedly) from US Army personnel serving in Afghanistan only. They received this information directly from recently returned OEF/OIF soldiers. Yes, the VA and its clinicians are very committed to the health and welfare of our servicemen and women; however, many clinicians (particularly social workers) catastrophize most reported "misbehavior." They reported this information in a manner suggesting an epidemic with untold significant consequences. Most are female and informed by the media. Personally, I see many advantages to using gear while on active duty and support its appropriate use.

I'm gonna guess this will be another way they (VA) try and deny more health and mental claims submitted by our men and women in the service huh? It's ok if you come back with post traumatic war symptons. But we ain't paying your bills for you if you come back with some gym juice in your system. Don't you know that shit can kill you? yeah it definetly happens oversea's especially in the middile east more than you know (without giving up which branch/unit or force uses the most).And the ranking officers and enlisted know it's happening but obviously don't care and why should they?
