OT: Please pray for florida

If you’re in hurricane prone areas definitely procure flood insurance! The feds have really f’d the flood insurance program up with the Risk 2.0 shit and made it crazy expensive.

However, you’ll wish you had it when one of these monsters brews up! I’m literally 1’ above sea level so I NEED it!!!!!!

Cage
Even then it only covers up to 250k in damages--not nearly enough to make people whole, but I agree it's definitely needed

We have a second home in Florida, and I’m praying we make it through with only a little to no damage. We are trying not to stress about it. Whatever happens is going to happen. We will deal with the effects after.

My Uncle just left Ohio, where I’m at, to return to his immediate family that lives between Tampa and Orlando, right in the projected path. He followed Helene to get here and returned home to face who knows what with Milton.
Prayers for everyone affected by these storms.

Prayers for your uncle and hope he's OK after Milton blusters through.

I have two good acquaintances with family running right now, one from Tampa and one from Crystal River.
Dear Lord , watch over our families in Florida. May they escape unharmed.

I'm here on the gulf coast next to Tampa. Last week it devastated my city. I am lucky I live in a small pocket that is protected from the flood. Not so much for the businesses and my neighbors around me. I went with out power for 2 days. Blown transformer right next to me. Fallen tree that took down power lines 3 houses away from me. Large debri all through my street. Dealership across from me lost over 100 cars and destroyed the carwash.

This time, the hurricane is coming in stronger than the last one. I bought a 1200w generator, a portable 5000btu AC unit, a 100w battery pack for USB ports and AC outlet, rechargeable lantern that lasts 12 hours, a rechargeable fan that lasts 12 hours, a long lasting rechargeable lithium flashlight, two 5 gallon gas containers filled for my generator.

Oh and I have 6 sandbags to stack up against my front door just in case. Not to mention I packed all my gear and HGH in a container and placed them high on a shelf in my closet just in case of flooding lol

This one is a big one! Cat 5!

Wish me luck! 😛😛😛

This was this past weekend. Some of these same people will probably have nothing left after this next round. It’s crazy what Mother Nature can do. Last winter we had two storms where Lake Erie dumped close to 7 feet of snow at a time on us. I’ll take a snowstorm any day over a hurricane.

Curious if y’all Floridians get f’d via homeowners insurance’s hurricane policy. Prior to Katrina my insurance had like $1000 deductible. Now that shit is at 5%. I assume it isn’t just SELA and affects everyone near coastal areas.

Do y’all have the same percentage as a deductible? From 1-5%?

I'll preface it by saying that I'm not a religious person (like at all), nor do i want this to be a religious discussion thread, but this hurricane--I'm praying that it weakens and turns south

The storm continues to rapidly intensify, and if it stays on the current trajectory that it's on, myself along with hundreds of thousands of other people will lose close to everything. With a 10-15 storm surge (assuming it weakens before landfall), my house will be completely underwater, assuming there's even a house to come back to

It really puts things into perspective. We often take things for granted. One day my biggest concern is my diet and trying to maximize my gains in the gym, and within a few days, none of that matters. I just want a house to come back to.

Please keep the people of Florida in your thoughts and prayers. This is going to be a bad one, a potentially record setting storm, and a lot of people are going to suffer
Yea I’m here too and my family in Cape Coral

Paying about $3,800/year currently. The rate is determined by the deductible for us. The lower the deductible, the higher the rate, and visa versa--the higher the deductible the lower the rate.

I need to double check but the deductible is either 1000 or 2500

Not sure if this answers your question or not

Also looks like they have the hurricane making landfall as a category 4, up from the projected cat 3. Really hope it weakens like they're saying it will..

I’m a tad under you at $3400/yr. But we have different deductibles here. One is for the winter months ($1000) and the other is for hurricane season. My deductible is 5% of the insured value of my home. My home is insured for like $350K, so my deductible is $17,500 for hurricanes.

So when a storm comes through instead of having only $1000 deductible it jumps up to almost $18K. So before I get any kind of help from insurance I have to have at least $19K in losses. Such a rip off!

All the small storms that roll through end up just costing me money because insurance won’t pay shit. I don’t know how that’s even legal, but that’s how it is now.

Insurance spent YEARS taking millions and millions in premiums without ever having to pay. The insurance groups took a hit after Katrina and Sandy. That’s when they changed the rules so they didn’t have to pay people.

Ya gotta have it though so you just take the shit sandwich!

I'm just wondering what happens if/when the insurance companies go bankrupt from all the claims that have been and are about to get filed.

Does the government intervene, or do the people that have paid their insurance for years (or in some cases decades) get screwed?

Rates are about to go up astronomically either way.

Well here you have state funded insurance programs called Citizens. It’s stupid expensive too. Your premium would be double your current one if not more.

Essentially as insurance groups fold or flat out drop policy holders people will be forced out of the areas. At least those that have a mortgage would be priced out due to the sky high insurance rates. It’s been steadily happening around here over the last 5-10 years.

Lots of people here have been fucked by insurance groups going bankrupt…. They’ve been in limbo for many years now without answers. I’m thankful I haven’t experienced that just yet.
