OT: Please pray for florida

Well here you have state funded insurance programs called Citizens. It’s stupid expensive too. Your premium would be double your current one if not more.

Essentially as insurance groups fold or flat out drop policy holders people will be forced out of the areas. At least those that have a mortgage would be priced out due to the sky high insurance rates. It’s been steadily happening around here over the last 5-10 years.

Lots of people here have been fucked by insurance groups going bankrupt…. They’ve been in limbo for many years now without answers. I’m thankful I haven’t experienced that just yet.

I pay Citizens 5k per year here in Miami. My house is only 1,700 sq. ft.

I feel for ya man… I know several friends of mine that are currently being screwed by them!

Should hit Orlando at 1am at a strong category 1, almost 2.

This is the neighborhood. Pretty much everything's underwater. Some asshole even abandoned their horse and left him in 3+ feet of standing water. Words will be had when they get back

Got lucky and avoided the storm surge. No water got into the house. Just some wind and solar panel damage but I'm not even complaining. I'm just thankful the house didn't flood

About 1/2 the neighbors (or more) didn't get as lucky and have major flooding in their homes.

The picture I included.. that's a road (i know it looks like a river, but it's a road)

Edit: looks like the pictures are having a hard time uploading sec

All good on the east coast. We didn’t even lose power but the west coast got it pretty bad.

Curious if y’all Floridians get f’d via homeowners insurance’s hurricane policy. Prior to Katrina my insurance had like $1000 deductible. Now that shit is at 5%. I assume it isn’t just SELA and affects everyone near coastal areas.

Do y’all have the same percentage as a deductible? From 1-5%?

Cage
I'm in the same area as you.

I still have my $2500 hurricane deductible, but my homeowners has gone from 1200 to 2400 and this year to $4200.

Any of the quotes I got this year were about the same yearly amount with a 2-3% hurricane deductible.

Even my auto went up from $1800 to $2400 for 1 vehicle that is over 10 years old. I don't have any claims on either insurance.

Insurance is a scam, you should at least build some kind of bank for all the years you paid in and never used it.

It was gnarly rolling through here. Those winds were not playing. Luckily the water levels are receding quickly which is good because for a minute there we were "almost" underwater.

Dogs in tampa were tied to fences and left in backyards. When the police were called, they said to call animal control, animal control was closed for the hurricane ofc.

Animal rights need to be a thing. The laws hands are tied because they are considered property. You can get away with doing heinous shit to an animal and that needs to stop. Serial killers often start with small animals. Talk about ignoring loud flashing red lights.

Wow. Stay safe out there 🙏

I'm here on the gulf coast next to Tampa. Last week it devastated my city. I am lucky I live in a small pocket that is protected from the flood. Not so much for the businesses and my neighbors around me. I went with out power for 2 days. Blown transformer right next to me. Fallen tree that took down power lines 3 houses away from me. Large debri all through my street. Dealership across from me lost over 100 cars and destroyed the carwash.

This time, the hurricane is coming in stronger than the last one. I bought a 1200w generator, a portable 5000btu AC unit, a 100w battery pack for USB ports and AC outlet, rechargeable lantern that lasts 12 hours, a rechargeable fan that lasts 12 hours, a long lasting rechargeable lithium flashlight, two 5 gallon gas containers filled for my generator.

Oh and I have 6 sandbags to stack up against my front door just in case. Not to mention I packed all my gear and HGH in a container and placed them high on a shelf in my closet just in case of flooding lol

This one is a big one! Cat 5!

Wish me luck! 😛😛😛
So sorry to hear that.

And that’s for everyone here who has been touched by this powerful storm.

Stay safe, stay alive 🙏

Question. How did you manage to get these supplies? I would suspect the shelves would be empty of those survival items now . . . or did you get them between storms? (Glad you did.)

Where do you live?

Thanks for the photos. That looks terrible. Glad you are safe and the damage is minimal.

Now that poor horse. WTF? (People like that should not own animals.)

What to do with large animals, ones you cannot carry to safety? It’s a real problem that is often not talked about, overlooked or gets the press it deserves.

Tampa here

And yeah it's messed up what they did. There's a lot of people that are pissed about it. They're an elderly couple so maybe they just panicked and weren't thinking straight. Not entirely sure what the rationale was there but there's plenty of people that would have helped if they just reached out. Plenty of people that have horses and trailers, the horse could have been easily transported to a stable or another location. The neighbors here would have been happy to help

It's just gross negligence at this point. I don't think they deserve to own the animal either after they literally abandoned it during a severe storm

The horse is literally just standing in salt and sewage water, probably increased risk of infection, probably no clean water to drink from, and I imagine the food supply has been wiped out. The other neighbors are stepping in to help after the picture was posted but still it's just an unfortunate situation in general

I'll be fine though. Broken things can always be replaced and/or fixed, and there's Plenty of other people that have it worse and who lost everything

Glad you made it relatively unscathed. I lost contact with my folks around 10pm their time. Haven’t heard a peep since. Was gonna wait till Saturday and call the sheriff of their area and see if the roads are clear. Also if out of state relatives can come help and what’s required for entry to the area.

Hope your family is safe man. There's widespread power outages, internet outages, and even cell phone outages. A few of my neighbors that have the same carrier aren't able to use their phones for outward calls, yet mine somehow works (although the connection is dropping very frequently) so I'm hoping this is what's going on in your situation as well. Trying to stay optimistic

A lot of roads are inaccessible right now too due to the flooding, depending on where they're located. Hoping the water starts to recede quickly, because the electric crews won't even begin to try to restore power with the water levels in their current state (obviously electricity and water do no mix well). Not sure what the procedure is for the first responders. I know if the wind is over a certain level (i think 45mph+), they won't come out but with the storm already passed, this isn't applicable anymore. Local PD has been going around in boats to check on people and make sure they're alright and that's all I really know at the moment other than what's on the news. People are kind of just hunkering in place right now because trying to drive through a deep flood can total your car. The larger trucks or lifted trucks have a little more leniency with this, but even then they're just creating wakes pushing more water into people's homes

Never seen anything like this. Never want to see anything like this again

Hey thanks alfresco! I made it through the big one. Lot more damage than the last hurricane. I almost got caught in a tornado driving. I could feel my car shifting side to side from the winds while I was searching for gas. I couldn't tell how close I was because it was at night but I turned back and blew every light to get out of there. Tornados were touching down every where. I had no power for 4 days. Ran out of gas for my generator and my car was on empty. My internet went down for 6 days. When the gas trucks came. We had hundreds of reported fights and police finally posted at gas stations. My work had to shut down for 5 days because of damage. This one was worst than the last one but I made it. You can't keep me away from ProM!! :giggle:

Tampa here too. Did you see the news about the dog chained to that fence abandoned on the side of the highway and the trooper found it in a pool of water? They found the owner and arrested him. That was bs!

I saw a lot of bad tempers at the gas stations. I saw police hanging out at a lot of them because of the fights.
