OT: Sleep Apnea

I was recently diagnosed with mod/severe OSA. Doc had me tested due to my AFib. I've only been using my cpap for a few months but it has really improved my energy level throughout the day. Wake up feeling rested. Wish I'd gotten tested years ago!

My number one priority the last few years has been getting sleep in first in the equation. To me deep sleep is a must to succeed in both bodybuilding and life.
I have been using a CPAP since 2010.
I never really nailed the sleep until I got rid of all stimulants including tren and started practicing sleep hygiene.
My routine starts cutting all electronics out 1.5 hours before bed. Hot shower to stimulate sleep response. Room totally dark.
Sleep supplements melatonin and a TN sleep cap. CPAP on green noise on sleep mask over eyes and flat out skin contact with my grounding mats/pads. I sleep on my back and wake up in the same position with deep sleep for 7 hours. I don't even get up to piss.
It's almost like being in a coma. LOL.
I will never sleep without grounding ever.
I even take it on trips. I could never sleep in hotels very soundly but my most recent trip to the Midwest I slept like a baby at over 5000 foot elevation and the time change. I couldn't believe it. Got like 6 hours sleep and felt like a million bucks.
I would not give up my cpap or grounding mats for a million bucks. I remember sleeping without a cpap before treatment and I would wake up gasping for air heart rate well over 100 etc. The following days would be miserable nodding off at work in the car and slowly pushing weights in the gym.

I had really severe sleep apnea (90 sleep disturbances per hour, which they said was the highest they had ever seen). I had surgery (actually multiple surgeries) for it, which definitely improved it; but they said I still needed a CPAP.
I tried to sleep with it for a few months, but I would always rip it off in my sleep. Apparently, people who have had the surgery have a difficult time tolerating CPAP if they still need one.
A couple of people here suggested wearing it while awake to make it more tolerable during sleep. So I scheduled a sleep study so I could get another CPAP, but the appointment was six months out and I ended moving to Texas before the appointment came.
Lately I've been sleeping with those nose strips at night, and I feel like I sleep better with them and I don't wake up with a dry mouth from mouth-breathing during my sleep.
Apparently Tirzepatide has just been FDA approved for sleep apnea, so that gives me another reason to try that.

i hope Tirzepatide has an effect on sleep apnea but i highly doubt its related to anything but weight loss - my gf says im not snoring but im also down 25 pounds

Sleeptest.com is how I started - got a consult with an NP, had the test delivered within a few days. Two nights' in-home data collection confirmed "mild" apnea.

I was falling asleep when I rocked back in my office chair in the middle of the day and dreaming a full dream in 5 minutes...so needless to say I was not getting enough (any?) REM sleep at night.

Night and day difference after a few days of getting accustomed to the thing. Don't delay on getting one, and for anyone else reading this, go ahead and get tested if you have an inkling of an idea you might have apnea. There is such tremendous upside to fixing your sleep and enormous downside to neglecting it.

Sleep hygiene has made a big difference, too. The main driver for me is avoiding (most) electronics near bed, but especially phones. I can wind down in front of the TV with my wife, but sleep quality is markedly worse if I'm still looking at my phone until bed. Put it out of arm's reach at the end of the night, and get an actual alarm clock so you don't have your phone near you in bed.

I'm using the P30i which is the pillows. I just found out the pillow pieces and the n30i nasal pieces share headgear and frame so are interchangeable. Will be trying this shortly too.

Just got my machine last week. Total game changer. My AHI was 36.5, which placed me in Severe OSA. spo2 bottomed out at 79%, and was below their 84% threshold for 44 minutes of 7 hours of sleep. Currently my AHI is running 2-3.

I had completely forgotten what it felt like to be rested. It’s was immense for me. As well as immediate.

Had sleep apnea and Doc prescribed CPAP it took a few months to build up to 8 hours of use but prior to that my hematocrit was at 54 and doc said it was due to sleep apnea and not so much TRT. Well lo and behold after 3 months on it it dropped down to 47 and don't have the feeling of needing to take a nap anymore. Best thing I ever did for my health.

Ok you guys sold me. Went ahead and ordered the test. The idea of sleeping better and waking up feeling more rested sounds too good to ignore.

In the meantime I picked up some of these breathing strips and noticed immediate improvements in my pulse ox score. The dips are less severe and seem less frequent. Won’t use these for the sleep test obviously because the goal would be to get a shitty enough score that it’ll be covered under insurance, but I do find the strips to be helpful based on last nights data.

You will be very happy you did

The worse mask every.. comfortable yes but if you turn on your side the mask collapses and you choke as the side straps are actually where the air passes

Depends on how much air you need. Same with P30i. More air just goes through the other side and you can often adjust the pillow to control how much it closes off the other airway. So I will say, I need a shit ton of air and pressure. I almost max out my Resmed machine. I use the large nasal pillow mask because it allows the most air through and into my nose (holes get bigger but really I'd be a medium otherwise). I'm generally okay with the side airways even closing one off BUT....If I'm congested or one of my nostrils is full/closed - this is a problem and I need to go to my back.

So for me and my issues (and I'm super high AHI, and fucked structurally inside) it's still a really good mask 95% of the time. Last 10 days my AHI has been below 1 and often near zero on each of them. One day I did have a zero.

Might work just fine for you. These things are always trial/error. I had to tweak a few service menu settings moving into the non-full face nasal pillow and then adjust the size of the pillow holes for airflow. Worth it in the end.

25 years ago did a sleep study as the X was complaining of me snoring, and it showed i had mild sleep apnea. The CPAP i tried during the study sucked. Did the surgery that was available. No complaints now and wake up more rested. But it is not like i jump out of bed ready to attack the day.

Thanks gonna take a look at this too

Just got my nasal mask today (already had the headgear from P30i which is the pillows version). Firstly what allowed me to even try a non full face mask was the chin-strap someone suggested. Amazing and gives me access to all kinds of cool less obtrusive masks now (appreciated greatly).

Anyway I love the pillow version but just took a quick nap with this and really liked it. Still need to test it out and will report back after I get some nights in but so far so good.

While infinitely better than full face the nasal cushion on P30i has nostril inserts. I need a large just to get required airflow pressure and the nostril pieces don't always stay still inside especially when I have some congestion in one and the other side is taking a ton of air. That said, last two weeks I've averted under 1 event (AHI) per hour so results are awesome. Sleep study has me at 55ish AHI a few years ago.

I seem fine with a medium in the N30i version as holes are big enough and nice that they don't stick inside. Will report back after more use and stats but so far I like it more than my pillows.

Dude I’m digging these “nose cradles”. Less invasive than pillows but I’m still getting a solid seal.
