OT: Who is retired?

I retired when I was 38. I worked in sales for a few years and I was ok at it, but I hated it. I was in Vegas at the time so I worked security at a night club on the strip. Then I ended up being a bouncer at a strip club for a few years.
Moved to Texas about a year ago and haven't really done shit since.
I'll probably start some kind of business at some point.

I just retired and it is a big adjustment. I was laid off and no work coming up. Having all this time with not much to do takes some getting used to.
I surf and play a lot of tennis, Hit the gym but that still leaves a lot of down time.

I'm 61 and retired 10 years ago. This is my tenth year working part time at a local high school. School days only, four hours a day, pay is ok, benefits are fantastic. With all that, after this year I qualify for a pension and don't see working after this year.
Time to boat, fish, and do whatever. My dad died within a year of retiring, he didn't have to work but had no hobbies. That is not happening to me.

I retired several years ago. In my latter 50's and was just thinking yesterday how i would rather kill myself then go back to work. I have quiet peaceful days. I only do home chores when they need to be done as my house does not define me just as my job never did.
I never get bored. As only boring people get bored according to what my mother would tell me as a child.
I read, learn, cook, eat train, walk as a basis for most of my day. Same as when i was working without the pesky job getting in my way. When i am tired i don't spend a lot of time thinking about what i should do.
I routinely take trips. Hike the mountains. Mushroom hunting season is starting so time to wander the woods. When i want a more structured time i plan to start volunteering my time. But have no interest in being locked into a schedule at this point.
What i like to do would not appeal to a lot of people. As we all have our own likes.
The world is full of opportunities of things to do. If i don't like one choice then i can always choose another as i have the time to do that.

You can then spend all day in the gym once you retire completely and the main benefit is staying fit and healthy!

I am fully medically retired from the military and am currently working..my wife wants me to just fully retire..I have strongly considered it.

Might get some food trucks or something..still young

I retired at 38… at first it was great. It was like a novelty, as I’d effectively worked ever since I left school.

But i soon found myself becoming the house husband. Chores, school run with the kids etc, and the wife soon got bored with me seemingly bumming around.

After a while I just felt a bit empty, I needed a bit of purpose again. So long story short, I now sub contract part time in the field of work I was in.
All done on my terms, come and go as I please etc

Feels like a nice balance for now.
But I’d like to put efforts into some passive income stream too at some point.

Its official, everyone retired before age 40 except for my ass.😐

THIS! You described it exactly and what I am afraid of happening. Like I have been saying it is so new... just since summer and with my GF going back to school (teacher) the last month home alone during the days it has hit me. While I will not go back to healthcare I guess I am waiting for the next phase to become clear to me. I need to let it just present itself and not try to force it into existence.

I am glad you found the right balance.
