over 2 years on carnivore diet and various fasting lengths

No one has anything bad to say about fasting (72+ hrs)? Don't have to be carnivore to fast, plenty of benefits. I don't agree with intermittent fasting, OMAD etc. Talking about prolonged fasting 72+ hrs done monthly or longer fasts done less frequently.

I think that saying : x thing is how it should be cause this is how we were doing things in past is wrong. Just because we were walking everywhere in the past does it mean i should never use a car? We ate meat mostly in a past cause this is how it was - we did not had other options. Does it mean it was better? No - it was necessity. But necessity is not an optimal. Just because in a past you had to remove your tooth with a stone does it mean you should avoid dentist?

I did carnivore for a year. Intermittent fasting. I’m 62 going on 63.

One thing it definitely did for me was reduce inflammation. Arthritis in my hands gone after a few months.

I don’t know why…I don’t care.

But once I began TRT, I gradually weaned off. Now almost no red meat…lots of chicken, turkey fish and carbs, vegetables and fruits.

I don’t view these kinds of diets as longterm/sustainable.

I also don’t outright dismiss them and the people who incorporate them into their lifestyle for whatever reason. That’s a waste of time.

Everyone’s different. If it works, more power to them/you.

But it does become cultish, like every other diet/fad. That’s can be annoying, but then I choose to turn it off and spend my energy elsewhere.

The lab studies on long term fasting seem interesting. But guys in the anti aging world that have incorporated it for few years stopped as the real world benefit did not pan out to them. I find most of what is done in labs tends to have no real world applications. My experiences over the decades with lab studies being put to the test using myself point to the same thing. While worth looking into, but till it has been shown to work in real time it is theory.

Most of the recent research shows no particular benefits.

The two biggest claims - apoptosis and weight loss happen anyway with "normal" calorie restriction.

Extremes appeal to some people and it can be validating for them. I don't need validation so I just see the objective outcomes. Boring I suppose 😂

Again, like carnivore, if you want to try be my guest, but there is nothing inherently special about these models.

I find out the people who try to educate me about longevity are not close to my age.

When i want to know about longevity i tend to look at the lifestyles of those in their 90's or 100's. But much data seems to point to making it to that age is in large part to having some of the best genetics. I am pretty sure with my choices i wont make it that far. Course looking at many people i can't see where they have made it as far as they have genetics or not! Poor lifestyle can get a person well into their 80's these days.

People would much rather hear about what you were eating during this period
I got it written down.

Early stages of cutting diet:

8am 2 scoops whey, 2 tb spoons peanut butter

11am 16oz 90/10 ground beef, 1 cup rice (cooked measure)

1pm 2 scoops whey, 2 tb spoons peanut butter

4pm (preworkout) 4oz ground turkey, 4oz ground beef, 1 cup rice (cooked measure)

6pm 100 grams vitargo, 25 grams whey

8pm 12oz salmon or steak, small sweet potato

Every Sunday 3 hour window of all you can eat cheat meal

For me this 3 hour window would not end up well 😁

Sounds Palumbo-esque. I'm not a fan of it myself, not only because it can go haywire but it seems without specific purpose. Are we refilling carbs? Mental break? Just a temp calorie bump?

I have worked with him, not everyone get the refeed, depends on the person

for me I would lost weight too fast without a big reefed like that, refilling carbs was the main purpose I would say. big meal on Sunday fuels Mon, Tue, Wed workouts and then by Thurs/Friday/Sat start feeling flatter and like you are dieting and those days the weight would get a little lower than before the Sunday meal

If you did bodybuilding in a past i would assume you loved workout? Why did you stop? I could never stop and there were plenty of times when i was not looking for any gains- just exercise for the love for it. You dont have to take x amount of gear to bodybuild, even 100 mg of trt and weights are better then no training at all. Did you lost the fun out of it? Cause this is what it seems to me.
I can only speak for myself: when the thing you used to love has to be performed in such a manner that its is a FAR cry from your golden days it loses its luster. When work sets are now less than your old warmups its not as fun. When something that used to leave you envigorated(after a couple meals and a nap) now leaves you so drained you need 2-3 days to simply feel not crushed by fatigue...you start to look elsewhere for physical challenges to take on.

Ever heard of diabetes ? sugar is toxic, the body will make all the glucose it needs and we do not need to eat carbs. No such thing as an essential carb. protein/fat you cannot live without

look at the link between sugar and brain diseases such as alzheimers

You think our ancestors were walking around eating every 2 hours to keep their blood sugar stable?

in ketosis you can skip a meal, fast for days and your metal clarity will only go up. On carbs, if you miss meals or fast you will feel like shit until you get into ketosis or eat more sugar, whichever comes first.

look at how many calories you can store as ketones vs how much you can store in carbs. You can store months worth of fuel as fat vs maybe 1 -2 days of carbs.
This might be the most retarded thing I’ve ever read in my 10+ years on this board, and there’s been a lot of retarded stuff said. The amount of “subject matter specialists” without degrees or clinical experience pumping out clickbait videos are a big part of why people are so uneducated today and believe anything.

I personally find the 72 fasting fad the ultimate irony. Anyone who has the discipline to not eat for 72 hours should instead use that discipline to eat right every day 365. Anyone who needs anything more than 2 working legs, a strp counter, a food scale, and self discipline can literally walk around at their desired bf all day every day. No drugs or even a gym membership required.

Imo 72 hour fasting is a fad unnecessary.

combine "eating right" with fasting for the best health results. Only fasting (prolonged 72+hrs) provides benefits of fasting, no drug, workout or diet will provide those benefits to the same degree

Thanks. Probably no sugar tonight. Although The 4 lb bag of sugar i bought abought 15+ years ago still has about 3 pounds left in it. So it is an option if i get a craving.
Have some some mayocoba beans and veggies simmering at the moment to have with my chicken breast encrusted with suya spice.
Can I have some of that sugar please?

My great great grandma had a 10 pound bag that has been passed down for generations.

I seem to have misplaced it.

Any time I hear someone reference shit like:

"Well 20,000 years ago humans did not eat XXXX"

I fucking laugh my ass off.

Okay smarty pants, then go full caveman and standardize your diet and lifestyle to mimic your "ancestors".

Evolution be damned btw...
