Literally! I yawned this morning and pulled a muscle in my neck. I mean seriously, what the f++k! Then while training back I strained something near my scapula. I swear, this contest prep is killing me. Am I just old?

Hey bud, Don't know how old you are, but look into getting some deep tissue treatments,.....ya I called them treatments cause they ain't no massage! LOL.
They hurt like hell. I used to get that same strain in my neck, and lots of other small pains and pulls, and ever since I started with the 'massages' I feel better and don't have the aches and pains I used to. Also helps a ton with muscle separation.
 
Yeah depending on your level of dehydration, sodium intake and carbs the muscles just don't fire well sometimes in the depleted state. Its why I always have to lighten the loads. I like BigMike's recommendation on the deep tissue, even better is genuine ART for real tweaks and pulls

I'm thirty six years old and I've been training since the age of thirteen. Actually my wife is a deep tissue and MFR practitioner.(lucky me:D) She's working on me tomorrow or as soon as the acute pain settles a bit. Going to spot roll the back and then biofreeze the neck until treatment tomorrow. I'm a big fan of both deep tissue and MFR, shit hurts and works like gold.

Have had the same problem for years, once it locked up while biting into a bagel. The only thing that worked was an adjustment from a chiroprator. Prior this I would have never thought of using a chiro, but so far it is the only thing that helped.
 
I've had that happen but it goes away as soon as I move or stretch slowly in a different direction.

I take in a lot of water or power aid before bed, but I still get cramps in my feet and calves in the morning and a lot of times within an hour of laying down. It kinda freaks me out, I'm beginning to wonder if I have poor circulation in my legs because my feet and calves cramp regularly when I lay down, to the point where I get nervous to move them when laying. And they are the type that cause me to jump out of bed, but once standing/walking or a quick stretch against the wall I'm fine, sometimes it will happen as soon as I lay down again.

I'm not so sure it's dehydration, I'll have clear or slightly yellow tint to urine which is normal.

But I've had my neck lock up from a yawn, that's an awful feeling and even though it goes away quick, I will still have pain in my neck for a minute.

Anyone else get leg and feet cramping from laying flat in bed, that's the only time I have it??
 
Also I've become a big fan of massage therapy, on occasion I'll get a normal full body just to relax but most of the time I get concentrated deep tissue on upper back/shoulders. This has helped more than anything, I have a herniated disc, C5 or 6, but I will get a lot of pain in upper back, shoulder, down my arm into my elbow and hand, fingers go numb. I've had this over 10 years and all my doc wanted to do was surgery and lots of opiates and Valium.

Message has worked better than anything, obviously it won't fix the disc issue but it relieves a lot of the pain and tension it causes in all those other areas so I go as often as needed, it's really amazing how much it helps, but i will usually be pretty sore that night and the next day then I'm good for 1-2 weeks up to a month. Well worth $35-$65.

I thnk its happened to us all. One day I wash brushing my teeth and turned my head and it locked up. I took some ALEVE and in a few days I was better.
