pasta while carbing up?

If they ain't whole wheat (and even if they are btw...), pastas will be digested pretty quickly... just takes a little longer than bread that has a very high glycemic index.

So since they kinda act like a simple sugar, just incorporate pastas when you need some fast acting carbs...

For about the same GI I would however go with rice, which has much less protein per serving. And since these protein are not complete (do not contain all the essential amino acids), they are rather useless if non-combined with pulses (lentils, beans, etc...).
 
have tried pasta, fond it was not as effective as potatoes both white and sweet.

It's just a matter of ratios... if you increase drastically your carbs in order to replenish your glycogen levels, you don't need as many proteins since now they ain't used to "make" glucose.

I know how you feel... I LOVE pastas too! :p
 
if you are in any way allergic to gluten it can make you hold a little water.


i err on the safe side and avoid pasta/bread for this reason.
 
pasta maybe but......

pasta packs more fat and less muscle from past experience. when i eat whole grain rice and potatoes i notice plenty more energy and strentgh than i did from pastas. and i also had a good strong sense of well being from these foods

Been on stage a few times and always carb up on sources my bodies used to hence why i keep a variety in during my diet giving me more options while carbing up.

Most pastas are low-GI (from the semolina), but they are very calorically dense so people end up eating more than they need. Not saying to use them in a diet prep, but a little goes a long way with most pasta. That and it is so damn good....YUM, I love tortellini:cool:

This will also depend on which pasta eaten as well.

also if you have meat with the pasta the essential aminos in the meat will allow for the protein on the pasta to be used. If you eat any incomplete protein with a complete protein source include both of them. Yeah, beans will complete rice also. One has what the other is missing and vice versa.
