The pentagon has fed us more shit about Pat Tillman but the truth is coming out. Looks like he was killed by "friendly fire" and no enemy were even present...so no firefefight..even though they gave the guy a medal for leading his troops against the hostile enemy forces that were not there. Bunch of assclowns firing at each other when a mine went off. Does anyone believe "Bush is Best" when these lies keep rolling out of the white house and Pentagon?

figures... always trying to pull the wool over the sheeps' eyes... get us believing what they want us to... then we trust them... then the fuck us... its what they want

bastards... imagine how his family will feel when it comes out

where did u hear this? i would like to read something on it. they did the same damn thing when that girl was rescued saying she fought off all these iraqis. BS. this shit just pisses me off.

I read that it was friendly fir but they were engaged with 10-12 enemies in a confined space. So I took friendly fire as some idiot shot him while not paying attention to what he was doing.

here is a link

I cant get that link to work but its on CBSnews and APnews

The Jessica Lynch thing is exactly what I thought of to now that they are admitting that it was a guy named Waltars and not her that fought off the enemy. Funny thing in this article they still quote the military as saying there was a firefight yet the peoplw there said a mine or bomb went off and they started shooting at each other and no enemy was even present.

Steak Helmet

Excellent point Steak , all the he said she said BULLSHIT.

All I KNOW IS

My father, who is a colonel and on his way to Kosovo in 4 weeks called me this morning with the news about Pat Tillman. He also told me other secret things I cant share here. Well, I could, but then I would have to kill all of you.

Lie?

I'd hold off on calling it a lie since an investigation wasn't even completed until recently... What does it have to do with Bush anyway? This has happened under EVERY President! Look at WWI, II etc.

Sad indeed, but it doesn't make Tillman any less of a stud hero in my book! The fog of war and ugly stuff is going to happen, that's why they call it war. Why do we think it's somehow sanitary? Ditto to Steak...

As Phil stated there's a TON of stuff that happens without our knowledge.... My dear friend served as a Ranger and went on numerous missions that "NO ONE" ever heard of...and yes he took people out. I asked him what they would tell your family if he would have died.. He simply said, "They tell your family you were killed in an accident on base in Georgia...you got run over by a tank or blown up and there was nothing left of you..." He had that happen to a fellow Ranger. He to this day doesn't know where he was at...he believes Panama and it was drug related.

BRAC,

I too have a buddy that served on one of the ELITE forces. He has shared numerous stories with me...it is a crazy world. He said they made you feel immortal...no one could touch you. Well, they were on a mission and 15 of the 16 people died, and he was the only one to come out alive...right then he knew there was more to life...he told his superiors he has lost the edge and should step down. He was bumped up after only 4 years...in his field, they want you in at least 10 years...he flunked the first time, but the second time he passed with honors. He too has killed for our freedom and I respect that and thank him for putting his life on the line so I can live free in this country.

Anyhoot, it is shitty that the media cannot leave somethings alone...they always want that killer story and will spare no expense on someones feelings or life to make up some BULLSHIT about them in order to make headlines. Anyways, I know PAT fought and died for our freedom and I thank him and everyone else that does.

Army: Friendly Fire Likely Killed Tillman

By JAY COHEN, Associated Press Writer

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Pat Tillman was probably killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan (news - web sites) after a U.S. solider mistakenly shot at an Afghan soldier in the former NFL player's unit, military officials said Saturday.

Tillman walked away from a $3.6 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Previous military statements suggested he was killed by enemy fire.

According to an Army investigation, Tillman was shot to death on April 22 after the friendly Afghan soldier in Tillman's unit was mistakenly fired upon, and other U.S. soldiers then fired in the same direction.

"While there was no one specific finding of fault, the investigation results indicate that Cpl. Tillman probably died as a result of friendly fire while his unit was engaged in combat with enemy forces," Lt. Gen. Philip R. Kensinger Jr. said in a brief statement to reporters at the Army Special Operations Command.

Kensinger said the firefight took place in "very severe and constricted terrain with impaired light" with 10 to 12 enemy combatants firing on U.S. forces.

But an Afghan military official told The Associated Press on Saturday that Tillman died because of a "misunderstanding" when two mixed groups of American and Afghan soldiers began firing wildly in the confusion following a land mine explosion.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the Afghan official said, "(There) were no enemy forces" present when Tillman died.

Kensinger, who heads Army Special Forces, took no questions Saturday morning after reading the Army statement. An Afghan Defense Ministry official declined to comment on whether enemy forces were present, while U.S. military officials in Afghanistan referred all queries to Fort Bragg.

In Washington, Pentagon (news - web sites) officials refused to comment on the Afghan report.

According to the Army's investigation, Tillman's team had split from a second unit when a Ranger whom the Army did not identify fired on a friendly Afghan soldier, mistaking him for the enemy.

Seeing that gunfire and not realizing its origin, other U.S. soldiers fired in the same direction, killing Tillman and an Afghan soldier. Two other Rangers were wounded in the gunfight.

"The results of this investigation in no way diminished the bravery and sacrifice displayed by Cpl. Tillman," Kensinger said.

Tillman, 27, left his position as a starting safety for Arizona to join the Army following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. He was posthumously promoted from specialist to corporal and awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star, one of the military's highest honors, awarded for gallantry on the battlefield.

Thousands of people, including celebrities and politicians, attended a memorial service at Sun Devil Stadium earlier this month. At a memorial service in his hometown of San Jose, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called him "a most honorable man."

"While many of us will be blessed to live a longer life, few of us will ever live a better one," said McCain, who spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

A woman who answered the phone Saturday at the home of Tillman's uncle, Hank Tillman, said the family would have no comment on the findings in the Army's investigation.

At Fort Bragg, an officer with the 30th Engineer Battalion said the circumstances of Tillman's death do not change his heroism.

"A lot of us sacrifice something, but no one sacrificed as much as he did to join," Sgt. Matt Harbursky said as he prepared to play a round of golf at the base course. "And it doesn't really matter how he was killed, it's sad."

Prior to Saturday, the Army's most complete account of Tillman's death came in his Silver Star citation, which said he was killed after his platoon split into two sections for what officials called a ground assault convoy. Tillman was in charge of the lead group.

When the trailing group came under mortar and small arms fire, the Army said Tillman ordered his team to return.

"Through the firing, Tillman's voice was heard issuing fire commands to take the fight to the enemy on the dominating high ground," the citation said. "Only after his team engaged the well-armed enemy did it appear their fires diminished."

The Afghan official gave the AP a differing account, based on his conversation with an Afghan fighter from the group that was separated from Tillman's. The Afghan soldier said the two groups drifted apart during the operation in the remote Spera district of Khost province, close to the Pakistani border.

"Suddenly the sound of a mine explosion was heard somewhere between the two groups and the Americans in one group started firing," the official said.

"Nobody knew what it was — a mine, a remote-controlled bomb — or what was going on, or if enemy forces were firing. The situation was very confusing," the official said.

"As the result of this firing, that American was killed and three Afghan soldiers were injured. It was a misunderstanding and afterwards they realized that it was a mine that had exploded and there were no enemy forces."

Tillman's platoon was in the area as part of an effort called Operation Mountain Storm, in which they were charged with rooting out Taliban and al-Qaida fighters.

Tillman became the first NFL player to die in combat since the Vietnam War. He was one of about 100 U.S. soldiers to have been killed in Afghanistan since the United States invaded in 2001.

Wish I could feel sorry

for calling those guys in uniform "assclowns" but I just can't excuse their behavior. No reason to start firing when you don't know who you are firing at or if you are even under attack..which they were not.

On top of this I read other places that almost all friendly fire incidents are initiated by American troops and other countries serving with them find them poorly trained. The situation at Abu Ghraib prison shows the mentality of a LOT of these people. They are not heroes if the do this type of shit. There are heroes in uniform but just having a uniform on does not mean you are a great human being..many are assclowns like many of us without uniforms. The officers in this war have proven themselves very deceptive and dishonorable in many instances where they have made up stories to lie to the public and covered up others to hide their ineptitude.

i agree with u on that. having served in the marines myself, i can attest to the fact that there was an overabundance of "assclowns" in my unit.

this was a major problem in vietnam too, the most dangerous part of a patrol was re-entering friendly lines. shit happens, but why make up some colorful story to try to re-ignite the publics support in a war we are being run around in circles about.

Why is it any of our business on how he died? You in his family? What gives us the right to know about combat, you been in it, in the military? They (WE) do a job, killing is someones job, it's not pretty, it's not fun but it has to be done, shit happens, people die it's called WAR for a reason. Well to those that served and understand what I am saying "SEMPER FI" and thanks to all those that came before and paid the ultimate price for my freedom.

the reason its our business

Is that the military made it our business.. They announced the original scenario and talked about a heroic battle...They tried to use his death for political propaganda and now they are having to backtrack on it..just as they have on so many things. Thank God the press reports their constant contradictions and keeps us informed of the bullshit we are always being fed.

I guess its up to you to believe what is true and what isnt as you will probably never know the true story...Below is the text of the statement given by LtGen Kensinger which states (paraphrasing here) they were ambushed...Which report(s) are true?? Again, I guess its up to you to decide...

The text of a statement given Saturday morning by Lt. Gen. Philip R. Kensinger Jr. on the death of Cpl. Patrick D. Tillman, a former pro football player:

Good Morning. I would like to make a brief statement on the events surrounding the death of Corporal Pat Tillman on 22 April in Afghanistan. I will not be taking questions.

A military investigation by U.S. Central Command into the circumstances of the 22 April death of Corporal Patrick Tillman is complete.

While there was no one specific finding of fault, the investigation results indicate that Corporal Tillman probably died as a result of friendly fire while his unit was engaged in combat with enemy forces.

The results of this investigation in no way diminish the bravery and sacrifice displayed by Corporal Tillman. Corporal Tillman was shot and killed while responding to enemy fire without regard to his own safety. He focused his efforts on the elimination of enemy forces and the protection of his team members. There is an inherent degree of confusion in any firefight, particularly when a unit is ambushed, and especially under difficult light and terrain conditions which produce an environment that increases the likelihood of fratricide.

Corporal Tillman's platoon was ambushed with small arms and mortar fire at about 7:30 p.m. local time while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Khost, Afghanistan. The enemy ambush was immediately responded to by a coalition patrol including Corporal Tillman with direct fire, and an intense firefight lasting approximately 20 minutes ensued.

The ambush was conducted by 10-12 enemy personnel from multiple locations over approximately 1 kilometer in very severe and constricted terrain with impaired light conditions. Following initial contact, Corporal Tillman disembarked from his vehicle and, in support of his unit, moved into position to suppress enemy fire.

We regret the loss of life resulting from this tragic accident. Our thoughts and our prayers remain with the Tillman family. Thank you all for being here this morning.

Every other article contains more info

stating that the Afghans present say that there was an explosion and the two groups which had split up, started firing at each other. They claim no enemy was attacking or present. My point is exactly that the military cannot be believed. You already printed the AP version above..why believe the military?
