Why would you need a personal trainer? If you are just starting out in the world of fitness/bodybuilding, the answer is obvious. Individualized training program tailored to your needs. Make sure you are using correct form on all your exercises. Help you set challenges and goals. Push you harder. The list goes on really. But what if you are hardcore bodybuilder, and have a number of years in the gym under your belt? Can a personal trainer be an asset to you? Of course! A top notched, quality personal trainer may be able to offer insights about certain techniques that should be employed on certain exercises, based upon observation of the your posture, gate, form, and so on. Another reason to employ a personal trainer is less technical, but much more intuitive. It’s an extra set of eyes. Let's say you are doing a set of heavy bicep curls, and are shrugging to get curl bar started. A trainer would notice that, and point that out. Chances are you were focused solely on rep count, and may have lost focus on the form you were wanting to use.
A good personal trainer should be able to read your imbalances, remedy them, and of course, guide you through individualized workouts. He should also be able to guide you through nutrition. A lot of professional bodybuilders have nutritionists to help them through their contest prep diets, which allows them to focus on training.
So if you aren't seeing results with your current routine, need to be held accountable and/or pushed a little harder, tweak your exercise program, a personal trainer just might be the ticket to help you reach your fitness goals!
