My dog recently was diagnosed with severe arthritis which has spread throughout her back, she is in pain most of the time. The vet prescribed a medication called "Deramaxx 100mg". The pills are pretty expensive here in the U.S., something like almost $2 per pill!. Is there a foreign source that may carry this animal rx?. Any ideas or leads would be appreciated. Thank you.

hey bro for what its worth i had an english bulldog and about 5 years ago he was having a hard time with arthritis i put one tab of glucosomine in his food every day after about a week he was great. so i just kept giving it to him i then cut back to once eod. it really seemed to help. just a little info. hope it helps.

Rimadyl is typically prescribed for chronic joint pain in animals (Jay426 posted a link to it) but I have read this is a bit safer and has no side effects.

Google the following: Adequan. Cartrophen. Pentosan Polysulfate. Read everything you can. These drugs are categorized as either "DMOADs" or "SMOADs" - they can actually reverse the degeneration of arthritis. They should be included as part of the regimen for any animal, IMO.

NOTE: Adequan is typically priced at $50-70 per injection at a vet. It typically costs the vet around $11-15 per injection. Negotiate accordingly.

Deramaxx, Rimadyl, etc. are all anti-inflammatories: they provide some symptomatic relief from OA/RA, but that's about it. There's a lot of risk as well. The **broken link removed** should be required reading.
